Ok so I recently purchased a G-Sport Ratchet 14mm 36h cassette hub and I have planed to lace the hub to my current rim which is the Revenge Industries 'Double Wall' 20" (The stock rim for Fit bikes) What I would like to find out it is.

1. Is it worth it lacing the G-Sport to my current rim? Or should I get a new rim? If so what would you recommend

2. Seeing I can't find out the different spoke sizes I would need for the Job(can't find the rim on any calculators I have found on the net) does anyone know what the spoke sizes would be?

3. I'm not sure what the lacing pattern is, 1,2,3,4 or 5 a guy at my local told me it how many spokes a single spoke crosses or something like that.

1) Yes if the rim is fine and holds up it's a keeper. Otherwise get a GSport Ribcage or an Odyssey 7KA.

2) 183,5 should do, but I would ask your LBS first.

3) On 36h wheels the most common is 3x.

Thanks so much man, I'm wondering if you could help out a little more by telling me what spokes to buy here I'm still a little confused.

Honestly, you can just use the same spokes.

I'd do this, but you should keep your stock wheel laced and use as a back up, then buy a 7ka or rib to lace the ratchet to

I was gonna do this with my wheel, but then I just went 3x, what are the benefits of each?

I really have no clue, I'm like whatever as long as it's strong.
I'm not sure about this but 3x lacing on 36h wheels is stronger while 4x is better for 48h.

tomdon should have an explanation why 4x better than 3x. I'm curious too.

It's proven. Not too sure how it works, but it just makes it way stiffer and stronger. I've heard people say that a 4x 36h wheel is just as strong as a 3x 48h wheel.

usually just preference. ive rode 4x for as long as i can remember so im partial to it. but 3x is better for up/down force. like trails/park. and its lighter because less spoke length. not that you'll notice half an ounce lol. and 4x is better for sideways force such as in street where you have a possibility of landing crooked or for people learning to spin or anyone who lands sketchy. and the more times a spoke crosses the stiffer it makes the wheel as its less chance to flex because the spokes have more contact points. and what most people dont know, 4x is 194mm spokes, which work for any 36h hub/rim combo except when it includes the macneil swagger or an aero rim.

I just finished lacing front wheel on Eclat Teck (flangeless) to Eclat Bondi using 194mm spokes, can't lace 4x since the spokes is too short. or maybe I did it wrong?
short googling, shown few eclat teck hoops using 4x. bit frustrated.

There's the spoke holes on each side of the hub. There in like a zigzag pattern, some outer some inner. Lace all the inner first then the outer. You always start at the valve hole and work your way around. Inner spokes left, inner right, outer left, outer right. Look up how to lace flange less wheels. There's a few how tos

I just found a guy willing to sell me a 2 year old Ribcage for 30 bucks.
I'll either sell it for more or keep it as a spare, don't think I'll need one though aha.

EDIT: now that I think about it, I'll see if I can find a freecoaster to lace it up with.
