Seriously considering a freecoaster

Hey guys, as you can tell, im considering getting a freecoaster and i think they are awesome.

However, I have a few questions/problems concerning the coaster of freedom. My friend just got one and his is really fun to ride, i have also messed around chainless before. I have a very hard time getting out of fakies without using pedal pressure. Usually i halfcab out, using pedal pressure to get a little pop. But apparently it is bad to use pedal pressure with a fc? And the slack makes it somewhat difficult. Does anyone have any advice for that (fakies?/halfcabs?/sliders?). My other issue is in the fakie its self. With a cassette, if i start to lean to one side i can usually kinda dip down while pedaling back and i can kinda balance myself out (i hope some of you know what i'm talking about) but with a fc you cant really do that. I saw shane weston pick up his back tire and move it around (to help with his balance i guess?) does that help even you out? or do i just need to eventually get my balance better? Also does chain tension really do anything with a fc? Im wondering this because im thinking about just going chainless for a few days to try to get fakies and half cabs sorted out. Thanks in advance smile

Ill tell you this now, if you are having trouble with fakies on a cassette, its going to be harder on a freecoaster...most think because you dont back pedal its easier, wrong!!! Coaster designs are changing to help but with a lot if you rely on pedal pressure, you'll blow your bearings quickly...most had this trouble. I say all this cause Ive been riding coasters for years and now its becoming the next big thing.

Ride Hard, Bail Harder.

I've had both and I'm not a fan of fc. Banged my knees on the stem all the time with the slack and I like doing lip tricks with pedal pressure. Agreed with what was said above, if you aren't dialed with fakies/half cabs on a cassette I wouldn't go for a fc

-,- what is it against the rules to ask questions about freecoasters, or is there some sort of elitist freecoaster club you have to get into? Really though, im not a beast at fakies, but i definitely not bad at them.

just get one and in the mean time ride chain less till you get your fakies down. then you can do sliders and upgrade to half cabs

Okay!! Woo!! This is my time to shine, freecoasters are my favorite. I have an Odyssey reloader that isnt really in working order at this time. But thats an older coaster. haha no worries about that one. I looooove coasters. Yes, you should not use pedal pressure when turning out of a fakie. Its weird but either learn to do it correctly (i couldnt be bothered to do that, it doesnt feel as good as this>&gtwink get brakes!!! A rear brake will help you out a ton when turning around. When you go backwards for however long, whatever speed, look around and pull the brake lever inwards. and do your halfcab, full cab, 5 cab, whatever. haha just substitute the break for pedal pressure! It works wonders. I know, it isnt cool to run brakes and it may not be your thing, but really consider this with your coaster! Its easier this way. If you always can get a new tire and you have a slicker tire, you can slider to keep balance!! If you only do street, get one. But unless you dont bitch crank in a bowl or ride trails, dont get one. Freecoasters can make a lot of riding super fun and look better, if done right. And balancing really is practice. With a cassette, i never really do long fakies, i find them tiresome and ugly. But i can do them and this is how you do it. Try to keep going straight, but turn the way that balances you out. Small corrections by turning is how it works really. haha

The answer to all your questions is pretty much is just get one and ride it, it's not that bad, you'll be used to it in a week or two at most. I thought it was going to be hell for me especially since i turned out of fakies switch footed and i used pedal pressure on my cassette. I actually ended up learning half cabs in a day, they were ugly but after a month they're starting to look better and get more height.

They're lots of fun. I recently got one. The lack of backpedal pressure is weird at first but you get used to it.

I would recommend an alienation free coaster since they have externally adjustable slack. This is a huge help if you switch often between street and trails riding (I do this a lot). I've ridden trails with max slack on my free coaster and that sucks. Its really nice that with the alienation you can adjust the slack so easily externally.

Big news.
I got sliders and half cabs without pedal pressure! I messed around chainless for a few hours today and got them, they are a lot of fun. Once i get flat 3's without tapping i think im going to get a freecoaster. I can post a video of the fakies later today when i have a friend to take a video. CSB.
oh, and i think i am going to get brakes just as kinda a back up, because i want to be able to slow down easily in fakies and i want my fc to last as long as possible. Thanks everyone who gave me tips

I find going backwards on a coaster easier too, but getting out is way harder. And that's why I get annoyed when kids say coasters are "cheating" haha.
