The interlock v2 kinda sucks IMO. The mushrommed pins are nice.. It's only reason why my chain has lasted a week. It streched out, and the sideplates are all sorts of loose. Makes me nervous.

I dig the KMC 710, I winder how this thing will be compared to the KMC

I haven't seen a side by side photo of the V2 and supreme so here it is.

I've been riding 1664 half link chains for a few years now , kinda confused on how everyone has problems with half links I've had a couple shadow half links and never had any problems with them riding 30 to 9 gearing wich is a bit more stressful on chains

I put alot of miles on my bike, this is the first halflink I have had. Lots of city riding with stop and hurry up n go. In a week, It's streched alot I have had to readjust twice and might have to cut it a second time. The side plates feel ultra loose and noticably different then the new links that I cut off the chain. No, I haven't had any critical failures. Yes, it's a pain in the ass compared to the KMC 710 getting it dialed in. I'm going to leave it on and see how long it lasts before I switch to that supreme interlock. I really just don't trust it, it's my first experience with one and it feels like it's already coming apart after a little more then a week.

Which ones? Shadow half links or Cult half links? Or the Keychain that you've never used?

|

Has anyone never used the kmc cool knight halflink chain? Does anyone else know nothing about it?

For aesthetic value, half link chains are good. And really small and tight gearing they're a little smoother. like 23/8 and such.

But otherwise, nothing can sell me on the idea that they're much better. They're pretty much the same if not weaker. I think the Supreme LOOKS sick, but i wouldn't pay that much. I rather have a Keychain than that TBH. Just because they're way nicer and shit if I pay that much.

Yeah the supreme looks good, the sideplates aren't bent either so we'll see in terms of performance. My bike has small dropouts thats why I grabbed a half link. I personally like kmc's with no masterlink my old bike had a kmc 910. I'm used to big gearing 44/14, 33/11 I thought my 28/9 with smaller dropouts validated a halflink, why not expieriment a little bit. The interlock with chromoly chainwheel makes me feel like I'm pedaling a spring. I don't like the look of traditional style bike chains, if both these chains suck ass I'll go back to the kamfered (? I think thats what it's called) kmc 710. My guess is, just by the look and feel of the surpeme I won't have to. It's a pretty beefy chain, hell it better be for $55 bucks.

Half links ARE indeed weaker, but that doesn't mean they're all pieces of shit.

The links are pre-bent

Photo

to make them work how they do. Full link chains are not like that thus they don't stretch as bad and aren't constantly having pressure applied on the bends every time you pedal, because they don't have them to begin with.

I will say that the Shadow Supreme chain seems pretty good since the way the "bends" are made, they aren't actually bent but rather machined to be like that (which is why it costs so much I guess since they have to machine all that?). But I've never ridden it or known anyone with it so I can't say anything much about it besides that.

Half links also are supposedly stronger when it comes to grinding on your drive side or doing crank arm grinds, but I forget the reasoning behind that.

Not bent, not even a little. I hate to say it without using it...the chains pretty sick. Photo

Yeah I know that's what I said above. Where bends would normally be on the Supreme chain, it's actually machined instead of bent

theyre forged plates, not machined. but yeah, no bent metal. I've been running the supreme since the first limited run and ive not had a single issue so far. i cant say anything for stretching though, as my drop out is pinched so it tends to budge forward in the dropout past the pinched part so its not uncommon for my chain to go slack.

@ohian - im on about the supreme. and please tell me when i said the keychain sucks? I've said i was gunna hold out till the supreme because ive heard a few stories, but never (to my knowledge, check if you have that much free time) said it sucks.

I have been running an Interlock V2 for like 4 years. I don't understand how you guys trash chains in like 9 seconds. My first Halflink (Interlock V1) lasted 5 years before I CHOSE to replace it.

Mines not trashed, nowhere near thrashed. It has stretched ALOT I'm not gonna swap this one out until I do trash it. No sense in wasting money... The supreme is a backup, I don't like being broke down. I also don't like having to redjust my brakes and chain tension every other day either. That's why I think the interlock v2 kinda sucks. At somepoint it should stop stretching, right?

You'd think. I also don't have the chain tension issues or adjusting brake issues either.

I must be getting the only ones that aren't bad? I've had the same with Eastern parts too. No issues.

I have a pretty heavy foot.. And no car.. And i ride daily... And i commute.. And I usually pop links , haven't popped a link on the v2 yet, I did have to cut a link off to shorten it a second time.

Forged makes more sense, I confused myself thinking they were machined just looking at the photo I posted above.
