Does anyone else think that skateboarders are sometimes worse than scooters when it comes to snaking. Scooters are only better known for it because they overcrowd skateparks, my closest indoor park doesn't allow scooters but the skateboarders spend like 15 minutes taking up the entire park in one go and you dont want to go incase you get in the way of their ridiculous path. Also when they fall their boards have a magical habit of hitting your wheels and one of my friends had a skateboard go straight through his wheel and the skateboarder didnt even apologise

I don't personally have a problem with skaters. They don't tend to get in the way for me. You're definitely right that they do often ride the entire park, but then so do a lot of BMXers and both BMXers and skaters tend to wait their turn. You're also right that if they come off their board it often ends up going in to wheels but it's not really their fault.

But, skaters can have a blast on nothing but a curb where we need loads of different things to do a lot of things.

This, and anyone can snake. Skaters tend to take up the whole park because most skaters usually flow different from most bmxers.

I dont say stupid things, just no one knows what im talking about.

Have you heard of flatland? No curb necessary. Let me guess, not ever bmxer wants to ride flatland. Guess what. Not every skater is going to have a blast on just a curb.

I personally do not like parks for the most part because of all the snaking (and being an adult). Trails or street is enough for me, although I'd like it if there were more bike parks like Burlington or Cranx.

For me, if a skater accidentally shoots a board and it hits my wheel, I usually don't get too upset. If it is clearly deliberate. I will take their board and LAUNCH it out of the park.

If spokes break and they don't say sorry (even if it is an accident) I will be pissed off, and tell them straight up they need to replace my spokes. (super cheap). If they are a dick about it in any way, I will again, LAUNCH their board off the closest thing I can find. If it chips, I don't care. If they spazz that it chipped, I tell them they can replace my wheel and then I will get them a deck.

Also the locals here tend to be pretty good about apologizing, and taking turns. Some are dickheads.

And to the kid saying skaters are happy with curbs, not true. Just like how you get bored on a curb, so do they. I know, I used to skate. Parks were WAY more fun than a curb.

But a lot of the snaking is a flow issue. Skaters flow parks differently.

Where I live when I skate all I have is a curb so you have to make do with what you have. if there is a great park nearby then fair enough but if that is all you have you adapt to make it suit your needs.

For real, anyone over 10 years old that's on a scooter, can't even be taken seriously as a human. I've seen some dorky white thuggish kids with cigarettes and tattoos on scooters and the shit cracks me up. You have to stand on those things in a way that makes you look like you just shit your pants.

As for skaters, usually they're good people. Anyone can be a douchebag though. I've met some bmx dudes that I'd like to smash in the teeth, for sure.

I snaked a skater, he said "it's ok man" and continued. He later snaked me. No big deal. We all live in harmony. Except for scooters. They have become road kill.

|

3/16/2014 11:28 AM

I do both so I have no problems with anybody, besides I like street better than going to parks, and the problem with scooters is that they are a bunch of little kids that have not been educated on how to act in a skatepark, my own daughter snakes me all the time when she rides her scooter, for some reason they only focus on what they are doing and not the people around them.

|

3/16/2014 12:15 PM

Most skaters are really chill and cool. However anyone is capable of being a dick. Last time i was at a park it was a park i had never been to, a really nice indoor park. There were a million people there because it was an animal jam. Anyway, this guy who was maybe 20 was doing flip tricks down a stair set. He fell and his wallet slipped out of his pocket. He didn't notice so i went up to him and told him " yo your wallet fell out on the floor over there." He went and got it without even saying thanks. Then i sit out of the way while waiting for my line to open up. Then the same guy walked right BEHIND me and started whacking the floor with his board and yelling "MOVE YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!" I look back and realize he is talking to me. He had his board raised up like he was about to smack my head with it and yelled "FUCK YOU!!! MOOOVVVE!" When he was the one who walked behind me. I moved and ended up snaking a few people on accident. So when you guys say "scooters are assholes with no respect! Skaters are all chill." You are mostly right, but all types of riders can be major dicks.

Why do these threads keep being made? I've seen so many threads where someone had one bad day at a skatepark and comes here and makes a thread. The result is always the same: everyone in here knows that there are good and bad skaters and scooterers as well as bikes and that it comes down to park etiquette, not the activity

most skaters are chill. you cant group everyone who participates in an action sport as being one way, just because you skate doesnt mean you hate bikes and are a dick. sure, a lot of skaters do hate us but for good reason; we destroy their ledges. you cant say every scooterer is annoying because sure some of them are, but a lot of actually legit scooterers are really chill. i wish i was better at skating tbh

I hate BMXers with ignorant attitudes.

Most of the time it is because they are saying shit like this, coming up with bullshit reasons people other things as though they are "settling" for something inferior, when in fact, they ENJOY what they do.

Do you also think BMX is only acceptable if you are brakeless with a slammed seat and 4 pegs, and street is the only thing you can ride or you are lame?

This is the attitude that makes us have a bad name when it comes to getting into parks and even our own parks.

Actually, we don't do any more damage to the ledges typically. Here's some food for thought:

Skaters are on the corner of the ledge. They damage just the corners. Our pegs are larger, and grind about 4 inches of the TOP of the ledge.

Pegs and skateboard trucks have about the same surface area for grinding when it comes to rails. Ledge-wise, if they didn't have wheels on one side, they would grind the same spot and amounts on the ledge. But they have wheels, so when doing a 50/50 or 5/0, their truck is hitting a very small part on just the corner of the ledge.

Pedals do about the same area (4 inches of the top) and plastics in general basically eliminate the damage aspect, leaving the skaters to do the damage, and us to take the blame.

So what this means is bikes damage the tops and about 4 inches in, and skaters damage the corners. For the most part it is pretty equal.

Don't believe it? Grab a board, put it on a ledge in a 50/50 grind, and look where the trucks touch. Then set a bike on the same ledge and look how the pegs touch. No matter what it is, metal to concrete will damage the concrete.

i agree that a smooth feeble grind or a feeble with plastic pegs does very little to no damage at all to a ledge, but what about gap grinds, feeble to smiths, smith to feebles, 180 grinds, and sloppy grinders? also, chromoly (pegs) is much harder than aluminum (trucks), and you have an added 25lbs, give or take, on top of pegs when a biker is grinding. personally, i have seen multiple bikers chip a ledge, myself included, but not on purpose of course. i have yet to see a skater chip a ledge, and they dont just 50-50 grind, boardslides, tail/noseslides, bluntslides, ect are a bit more popular in skating than a simple 5050, and these other grinds include large amounts of the deck on the grinding surface.
i agree that not all bikers are to blame all the time for damage to skateparks, but they are a good amount of the time (cherry park for example), and im not saying everyone should take off all their pegs and never grind again, but personally i try to grind granite and/or fragile looking concrete at popular spots or skateparks as little as i can, because we can grind through chips& cracks, but skaters cant really.
