Spline Drive vs Bolt drive

I have been looking at all the new chainwheels coming out. And I have noticed a few company's are making spline drive chainwheels. I was wanting to know what everyone thought about the spline drive system. Would it hold up to hardcore street riding, or is it more of a trails and park part?

if i were you i would just get the bolt drive. ive been riding spline drive for a lil while now but i ride park and trails. who knows how long they will last before you strip your spindle

i have a 28t tree spline drive sprocket and the spline drive is incredible, its held up for years ever since i bought my sprocket, it wont strip at all, trust me, Im mad sketchy with shit.

I ran a profile SD for a while, held up bitchen, and that was on a ti spindle.

Theres no way it would strip your splines, It puts way less force on your spindle than cranks arms do when you do anything as small as bunny hop, your crank arms would strip it out way before the spline drive sprocket does. As far as im concerned, there are no cons to spline drive. With spline drive there are no high/low points in your chain, and its just one less bolt. It looks alot cleaner too in my opinion.

i wish I had Spline drive, perfect chain alignment (no tight spot where the bolt moved the sprocket closer)
I would totally trust it

So many more features with having a spline drive.

The pressure on the sprocket is spread around instead of just on the bolt.
Automatically centers your sprocket to get rid of tight spots.
Wont have fitting issues on your spindle
Increased life due to not having to deal with the bolt holes on the sprocket expanding

The only reason some companies dont make ths spline drive it becaause it makes the process of making the sprocket alot harder. Very tight tolerances and such.

I think spline drive is a good thing. I will prob get a tree 4130 chainwheel when I get my new Ezra cranks. I am going to build a Sunday with the most innovated parts I can get. Frame will be 3rd wave with hallow drop outs, wave down tube. and the Tree stem, spline drive, tree hub, g-sport rollcage. Any other parts that people think are innovations let me know.

KHE has a ton of innovative stuff, some of ther stuff i wouldn't try but alot of it seems really legit. Ive had the anchor bars for about 3 months now and they are still going strong. Alot of the stuff on vein is pretty innovative too.

This is just what I've been told. I denied the fact that it would strip but I've only been riding it on park for like 4 months

Spline drive for sure. Thats like asking "whats better, DVD or BLU-RAY?"

4/24/2014 11:11 PM

Get a spline drive man i recently upgraded from bolt to spline drive. i have to say theres a huge difference. its low maintenance because theres no bolt to tighten so that saves time. and no tight spots and stuff. if your guna get a spline drive sprocket get a mutiny octad. its light and strong af. along with mutiny cranks.
