So i have seven lateral malleolus fractures in my left tibia.. A bunch of chips in my left ankle. It's been like this for years.. kind if feels like someone it's stabbing you in the middle of your ankle.

Anyways it won't heal, as in WILL NOT heal according to doctor guy. He's says surgery, I says no.

I can still hobble around, riding my bike is fine, landing? Yeah not so much.

Anyone know of a way I can stabilize my ankle for this specific type of fracture(s)? Some sort of brace, splint, or a fancy darth vader bandaid maybe? I may have to get the surgery, but I'd like to put it off as ling as possible.

If it won't heal on its own, you really should get the surgery asap. Putting off surgery can fuck so much more up and may even result in needing more surgeries, more pain due to things not healing right, etc.

I was like you when I tore my ACL. I was stubborn and didn't want to get surgery, period. I thought I could ride without having surgery so I did... until I blew my knee out again about a month later anyway. I read into it though and the longer you wait to have that fixed, the more repercussions it has. For instance, every time I moved my knee like when walking, it was slowly grinding away the cartilage in my knee, overtime if I had waited it would be bone on bone and very fucking painful. I'm a little over 5 years post-op and have no problems with it though which is good, but I'd hate to think if I waited longer or something.

Moral of the story is, you shouldn't keep waiting or the same thing could happen to you as well. I'm not a doctor and didn't research your situation, but I do know not getting it fixed can result in repercussions just like I had, and could have kept having. Maybe not the same, maybe not as bad, maybe worse though. Is that something you want to take the chance on though?

Hot/cold alternating baths. You douse the appendage in water, as hot as you can stand it, for 2 minutes. Then, switch to as cold as you can stand it....2 minutes. Repeat, for 10 minutes. It works for arthritis sufferers. Look it up. Before every session, or any other strenuous activity that may aggravate your condition, stretch. Stretch your tendons, do both sides. The key to health is balance. Look it up. Warm up....run in place, do some manuals, eat some raw broccoli. Get rested, get the missus to give you a back rub...while she's at it, ask for a front rub, too. My favey!!! I've been using Fuse ankle guards/protectors for the last while. Good shit. I'm sure you could find plenty more info with Google, than you would on here. I know what works for me just from my injuries and what I deal with daily. Get healthy so you can give 'er shit!

yeah. I don't know how old you are, but if you can afford it, get the surgery.

Yeah, it's going to cost you time off the bike now. But down the road, you'll lose more time when you get older as it degenerates.

Ankles are really hard to fix after they get permanently fucked up, and the most common fix is to fuse it. YOU CAN'T RIDE A BIKE ON A FUSED ANKLE.

get the surgery.

If you know it is not/ will not heal properly then you're going to deal with a bum ankle the rest of your life. Surgery is your best bet. Even aside from riding, you will have issues with your ankle forever and deal with a ton of unnecessary and avoidable pain.

Will you be off your feet/bike for awhile? Yes
Will you be able to ride/walk way more comfortably after surgery for years to come? Almost surely.

The time off sucks, but if you keep pushing your ankle as is it will only become worse. In that case, you'll be off your bike/feet for awhile anyway.

I'm gettin old, it's a pretty common injury. I was hoping someone knew how to stablize it so I could put it off over the summer. I'm probably going to get it done after that. Like I said it feels like someone is stabbing me through the bottom of my ankle every time I land. It doesn't matter how high either 4 inch curb or 4 foot drop.

After I broke my ankle I used one of these. It will just about immobalise your ankle if you lace it tight enough.

If you have bone chips floating around, I don't think this will help. those will still hurt. However, if you have some instability (that was my issue. I still can't stand on one foot) it will help with that.

get an EVS ankle brace for when you're finally ready to ride

Take a few weeks off and do as little as possible. AND GET THE DAMN SURGERY.

Seriously.

If you are old enough to have a few beverages, get the surgery and enjoy the first half of summer relaxing, learn to film, dial in the bike, and come back stronger.

If you keep riding with multiple fractures it likely will eventually just snap causing even more issues. (many small cracks can turn to big cracks super easy). Then when your ankle folds over, you will have to get the surgery.

Similar thing happened to a buddy, he fractured a bone in his wrist, and rode (even in a cast) and it took 2 years in a cast to not heal up at all. He had it repaired and now he's fine.
