Got a warning for riding without a helmet that somehow transformed into a 196 dollar ticket after 3 months of the event happening. Anyone know why its so much and if the cop said its a warning would that get me out of it (my friend was there to witness it). Its also my first ticket for this

Wear a helmet man , simple . In terms of tickets , if he did not actually give you one on the spot , you can choose to fight it but it's kind of a pain in the ass I think . You can bring your friend and say you weren't given any ticket but ultimately if you and your friend weren't wearing a helmet I doubt you'll get away unfortunately

Kinda this. I mean you could go to court and hope the Officer doesn't show up, then it gets dismissed, HOWEVER if he shows up he could potentially prove you didn't have one (if he had a photo or camera footage) and you are out of luck.

If he said it was a warning and did not physically hand you a ticket, I would call or go to the police station he is at, and ask about it NICELY. Don't roll in and be like "da fook man da cop gav me a warnin, not a dum tikit."

Maybe walk in and say something like "Hi there, I am curious why I received this stating I owe 196 dollars from something that happened 3 months ago? I was never handed a ticket and was advised it was a warning. If need be I can bring a friend who was a witness to the situation.

i found the original citation and it turns out it was only a warning so i dont know why this is here. If they for some reason don't believe it was only a warning its my first ticket for not wearing a helmet so it gets dismissed anyways. Sucks they caught me on an off day though I usually wear a helmet but it was just burning . Thanks guys

If your head was burning I suggest a lighter color helmet because believe it or not the temperature of your head can depend on ig the helmet is a light or dark color.

These guys are right, just ask politely why you were issued a ticked for a citation you got three months earlier. Also, were you even in a skatepark that required helmets? If you are over 18 and weren't in a skatepark at the time of the cited offense you didn't break any laws.... I think

Most parks, even free city-owned ones require it but never enforce it. In CA it is mandatory for people under 18.

Take the original citation to the Police Station or City offices and get it dropped. Sounds like a clear mistake on their part.

Don't know about NY, but in Ohio, anyone under 18 on a bike has to have a helmet no matter what. I would check the State laws...

...but I also wear a helmet all the time. Having been a bike courier, I learned that you always have to assume the other guy doesn't know you are there, and be ready for anything that comes at you

Nah i was just in this bike/walking path and a cop on a motorcycle was handing out citations to everyone under 18 without a helmet kinda sucks but lesson learned that if its too hot to wear a helmet just dont go outside. I realized that I caught a major break for not having brakes and having headphones in so i was respectful during the whole process. Im just gonna head out to the station and clear this mess up later
