I'm thinking of buying titanium nuts and bolts to shave a few ounces of my bike. I'm not going to buy Grade 8 or anything. The only thing I will buy Grade 8 the axle nuts.

Save your money and buy some weights and gain a few ounces in muscle......a lighter bike benefits you 0 in bike control and skill

|

10/26/2013 11:11 AM

You wont even get a few ounces off, theyre a waste of money. the only ti parts worth getting are spokes or spindle as they actually make a slight difference.

They wear out a lot slower, as Titanium is very hard. Titanium is however very prone to snapping due to it being very brittle.

That's what I meant , thanks's for correcting me. Either way I wouldn't want shit to snap ! Especially when you pay $100 for a titanium spindle tongue

If you want to shed ounces you should try cutting your frame in half and throwing it in the ocean and then proceed to tie an anvil around your leg and jump in

|

I'm gonna need bigger bars

Just get Tioga powerblocks if you care about wieght. They are only like 20 bucks a piece and like half the wieght of a regular tire

I run a Ti spindle and bolts in my ratchet. No real reason besides I had some money and I wanted to get custom/limited produced parts for my bike. Got as far as those bits and a zodiac compression bolt and dust cover

|

I'm a punk bmxer, I can't do it well so I do it loud.

If you need ti bolts, you need to fall down a few thousand stairs on to a pile of rusty seringes then set on fire. Then have the fire extinguished with an ice pick.

The only thing I plan to get on my bike that will save weight is carbon headset spacers, but idk when I'll get them, and that probably won't really save that much weight. Right now I think my bike is like 29 pounds lol, and all I have is a gyro on there.

You would be better off with lighter tires, tubes and wheel stuff.

Also go plastic pegs, pedals.

Shave weight at the wheels and your bike will be DRASTICALLY lighter feeling.

If you're not a really light rider you will snap them very easily.

Titanium spokes work for smooth racers......freestyle they aren't so great.......if you want to endure a wheel explosion go nuts but that could hurt

|

10/28/2013 5:18 PM

I ride trails. It's similar to racing. So, could I buy titanium spokes?

|

10/28/2013 5:31 PM

If you do buy ti spokes order extras because you'll probably need them down the line, also get the rainbow ones because they look cool.

Not really related to this post since you ride trails, but my dad is almost 50 and he can still hop my Specialized 415 stem height, he just laughs and says my custom will break when he picks it up hahaha

|

10/28/2013 5:33 PM

I'm not gonna buy rainbow because they cost extra.

|

|

Titanium is for park rats and race only. Whoever uses it for street, and hard street at that, is absolutely an idiot.
