Trail Bike Build?

My only other BMX right now is a Kink Whip. I am re-entering BMX after 20 years of not riding. Anyways, my boys and I are building a trail in the back yard complete with some dirt and wooden jumps, table tops, etc.

So here's my question: I want to keep the Whip as my street bike (gyro, pegs, etc) and build a new ride for dirt and trail. So what frame should I start with? Or should I buy a complete and make changes?

I welcome any and all replies.

This. Dans had them for dirt cheap too but idk if they still do. Basically what you want for like the dream trails setup is...

74.5 head tube, an extra .25" of frame size from what youre used to (if you ride 20.75 for street then do 21" for trails), a 13.75"+ chain stay (preferably around 14"), an 11.6"- bottom bracket height, and an intermediate standover (8.25-8.75"?)
32-35mm offset forks
53-60mm reach stem
A cassette hube with ATLEAST 4pawl engagement
175-185mm cranks, preferably 180mm
20x1.95-2.15 rear tire, 20x2.10-2.25 front tire
Straight cable brakes
Metal pedals, plastic w/ metal pins

If you would like I could throw together a custom bike on danscomp and post it on here with preferably the best trails set up possible. It will be expensive ($1000+) but thats the cost for a good bike these days, sadly. And if youre not into buying a full custom, look for a complete with similar geo but idk that youll have too much luck.

My Kink is 20.5" TT, IRRC. I am short at 5' 2". So do the TT rules still apply?

Thanks for the help. I got a better idea what to look for in a frame.

So a trail frame geo would be kinda halfway between a freestyle frame and a race frame? Or am I looking at it all wrong?

trails geo is 74-74.5 ht
13.6+ cs
20.5+tt
that is what most trails frames are

longer wheelbase, usually longer backend/front end. (compared to freestyle) Shorter than race bikes, usually.

I like 21+ top tube
14 or a tad longer back end
74 HT

Honestly, if you're just getting back into it after 20 years and you're just now building the trails, your current bike will work just fine.

^^^ that
Or a standard trail boss frame

I was bored at work last week and hopped on empire and built me a trails bike and I think I was at $1800 haha. Credence frame, tree hubs, etc. Would be rad to order all brand new one day. I picked up a Sunday scout on craigslist for cheap and its a dialed trails set up right out of the box.

Honestly, the whole "I can't use my street bike on trails" thing is BS. Same with the whole "this frame sucks for street the headtube is way too slack" I have friends that kill it on trails on BTMs and Huckers, and a dude I ride with all the time can nose manual better than 90% of you guys on a United Voyage. Ride what you have, it will be fine.

Thanks again for the replies. Guess I have a lot to learn when it comes to BMX frame geo.

Time spent on your bike is more important than any geometry.
