i got a decently new ody lincoln stem from my buddy yesterday cause my old one had a crack in it and when i installed it, the top plate came in contact with the bottom part of the stem and i could still move the bars forward and backwards, so i used some hockey tape, it helped a bit but it still "slips", any other suggestions, like different tapes, spacers, any ideas will help (btw the stem was fine with his space bars) and i only got $13.97 for another stem. thanks

try cutting a soda can and putting it around your bars

Bars are probably crushed. My Lincoln has a 3-4mm gap between the plates. Don't see any other cause.

^^^^ most likely the problem either do what icant said or I've seen people put a penny in between the bars and stem

Can a stem be crushed? Or ovalized? :0

No, stems that use weird compression, apart from the tradition two pinch bolts in the back, can crush the bars.
