My friend has a federal coaster I wanna get off him, I think it's the v2.

What can cause it to lock up?

As I was typing this, he texts me saying
"I was just pedaling at tron one day and it just locked up as I was pedaling"

So the coaster is currently out of commission but I read up a lil bit and the first thing I found was maybe a bearing issue?

Please enlighten me haha

Something is blown up inside. It could be bearings, it could also be something that's crushed causing it to bind up.

Take a look at this video we made to understand how a freecoaster works, that will give you some idea of what could be going wrong. The Cinema hub we take apart is nearly identical to the Federal V2.

Freecoaster hubs are usually repairable, but if they haven't been maintained sometimes they are never able to really get back to 100%. I would only pick it up off him if you get a really good deal on it.

Could also be something some idiot hodgepodged and swapped RHD to LHD (or LHD to RHD) and the threaded clutch ring loosened out and locked it up.

A buddy of mine managed that one like 6 years ago.
