I got some cult cuatro four piece bars and when looking from the crossbar down to the front of my stems faceplate the box section is twisted to an angle.... what could be the causes of this. Is this a possible type of defect?

Have you had any slams on it? Dropped your bike off anything? If you haven't had any accidents with them, they could just be welded pissed. In which case, providing they're pretty new, you'll be able to get a replacement under warranty due to manufacturing defect

Quite simply, you might not realise just how much pressure and leverage you can put on bars, especially wide bars.

Most common causes are bails that result in the bar ends hitting hard and worst case scenario the bars hitting the ground first. I once bent and twisted a set of bars about ten years back from flat bottoming a four foot spine, with about two-three feet of air out of it, it doesnt take much just the right amount of force.
