I want new rims but i have never tried to lace a wheel before and i don't want to mess up the rim if i don't get it right or whatever. and i don't have a truing stand but i know people do it without it but i just don't know what to do because i could buy rims and spokes from either albes, dans, empire but they want to charge $20-$25 per wheel to lace them.. I understand they need to make money but it sucks for me..lol and i'd have to ship my hubs to them so that's like $10+ and it would take a long ass time to get there probably and then it would take a couple of days more to lace it and ship it back and that sucks too and i only have like one shop close to me and they want to charge like $30 and the guy said he doesn't even know if he can do it.. Seriously i hate dealing with the guy anyway. And i don't really have the money to buy a whole wheel set unless it's something stock or used and i'm tired of used stuff because really it's too many problems sometimes. help.

Maybe lace them yourself, and then just take them to the lbs to get trued, should be cheaper that way being that a wheel truing is cheaper than a wheel build.

Freestyle is the answer to everything --
a fresh way to approach a dull or a
dangerous thing.
to do a dull thing with style
is preferable to doing a dangerous thing
without it.

You use too many periods and you capitalized some letters and you should just watch some youtube vids on how to lace wheels and true them without a truing stand and do it yourself and then you don't have to send your hubs or pay those money grubbing mail orders local shops to do it and you'll save money so you can get some pegs or something maybe a tripod seat would dope but you might just want to save that money for some sweet pizza pie or some corndogs or waffles or felafels or vanilla bean ice cream or a latte or a happy meal or maybe some homemade chilli. hope that helped.

yeah I missed that part of your post I thought you where buying all the parts not just the spokes and rim, I guess the best thing to do would be to check some tutorials out of maybe if you have a spare crap tire use that to practice on first

Tbh I dont find lacing that hard, like anything else, it just takes time and patience.
Look up the spoke pattern (36h 3x most likely) and put all the spokes in and barely have them threaded onto the nipple. Then go around the rim and tighten each nipple one exact rotation. Keep doing that until the spokes are somewhat tight then do half or even quarter turns the same way. make sure you do the tightening evenly (if you did your left side first, make sure you stop when youre done with your left side). Then you can attempt to true it or have your LBS do it.

Look online look at videos and learn to lace the wheel. You can't spend 20 bucks go work for a couple hours there you have it. To scared to do this to scared to do that Life's scary get used to it. Can't walk around like your new to the city that'll get you beat down.
