Ok please dont say anything bad but for some reason i really want a freecoaster not becasue it like the trend or anything or becasue everyone ride one just becasue i want to try something different or new beside a cassette. I know you guys going to say find a friend that has freecoaster ride his bike to see if i like it or not but the thing is all my friends that i ride with have a cassette so that being said i should just stick with a cassette but i could be the guy with a freecoaster then if any of my friends decside that he want to switch i could let him ride my bike. I heard pros and cons about freecoaster some were good and some were bad just like anything we buy i still have my christmas to spend i do got enough for one but i just need some suggetion so i dont have waste my money if i dont like it i just need anybody that has one and riding it now to me what to do. Now i know you have to adjust the slack but what about a stock freecoaster like the kink east coast freecoaster wheel that is already built how could you adjust the slack of it or is it already adjusted out the box if i do decide to get i might wait until ferbuary dans got 10% march 20% off i got the dans calendar what would a better deal that i got to say thanks. I forgot to say is there any way for me to stop thinking about a freecoster.

Run on sentence like Forest Gump

Take your chain off ; basically a freecoaster , just no pedalling forward haha . If you like that , get one . If you're like me and use pedal pressure and enjoy backpedalling then don't get one .

You can always save up and buy a whole wheel , and switch them out .

Freecoasters are fun, a bit weird at first but there's 99% of chance you wouldn't go back to a cassette.
Even if at the end of the day nearly all freecoaster tricks are doable with a cassette, but way smoother with a coaster (like backawards manual if there was only one trick to quote).
Some people thinks freecoasters are street, and street only, but there are super fun to ride in a park.

Adding to that, free coasters are super fun too on Dirt. No sound, just tires zipping thru, you feel like a mighty superman on a thing like that...

See for the Salt Plus Trapez free coaster: you can change that back to cassette if you wish... Heck, a lot of coasters are cassette-able.

It doesn't matter where a train goes. It's decidin' to get on that does.

If you have the money, get a prebuilt wheel freecoaster, and then you can swap to it, ride it a while, if you don't like it, you sell it and still have your cassette.

Having two wheels, is the best option, I am a coaster rider but I like to have my cassette wheel ready to ride just in case, if i got a problem with my coaster or just to re ride a cassette for a while (I generally go back to coaster really soon after the switch because I got no spots around so I spend alot of time backward).

Well i got a chance to get a freecoaster some guy on craigslist wants to trade his freecoaster for a cassette the freecoaster that he got is a khe freecoaster so i text him about it he said he will take any cassette hub for his khe freecoaster i ask him question about it got a good respone i told i will think about. The only thing i will have to buy a other cassette wheel if i dont like the freecoaster plus i will saves about 150 to 200 on a new freecoaster a cassette is cheaper then a freecoaster so what do you guys think about this.

I live in MN, who are you and who is it with the coaster?

MAKE SURE it engages well, and that the wheel is decently true. Find out WHICH KHE coaster it is (they have several models) Make sure all bearings roll smoothly too.

As to replacing your cassette, yea, the hubs are 50-100 cheaper, BUT you can easily build a new coaster wheel for under 200, or get a pre-built for around 200.

Cassettes will be reasonably similar in cost unless you get cheaper stuff.

I dont live MN anymore i didnt update my profile i live in Wiconsin i been hear for 3 month my dad got a better job here so we had to move sorry for not updating my stuff i do miss MN. But he said everthing is fine it does engages well that what he told me and he said that it is easy to ajusted the slacks im going ask him do i need to take apart or is there a easier way to do it. If i do trade with him how could i tell for my self that it engages well is there anything i need to look for.

No worries.

As to the engagement, the hard part is that you'll have to ride it to find out. I would ask that you can try it on your bike for a few minutes before the trade is final (or on his bike-meet at a park or in front of a police station) to see if it works ok.

If it is like most KHE coasters you will need to pull it apart to clean and regrease, as well as adjust slack. For those, there is not other easier way. Spin the driver by hand, make sure it is smooth, then spin the hub while holding the axle, make sure that it rotates smooth as well. If not, chances are bearings are going bad. They can be cheap, but just getting it and having to repair it is not fun.

ok i will do that if i decide to try with him but i thought some freecoaster that they said you can used a allen wrech key to adjust the slack it without taking it apart like the alienation rush v2.

I'm with you on that. the bike i had as a kid had the backpedal to brake setup, but it was silent. i'm getting used to hearing the cassette clicking sound, but nothing beat the pure sound of wind and tire as you flew downhill.

thinking of eventually looking into freecoaster to experience that again.

hey joltman! you asked about how to stop thinking about a freecoaster!

just my experience with similar things....you get one...or wait patiently until it goes away.

it's awful, right?

maybe you could find someone with a freecoaster, ask to ride it for a bit, and see how it feels.
that could help you determine if it's the thought of one is why you want one so bad, or if it's really something you'd like to do. i suspect you'd know pretty quick. (just an opinion)

I can't upload a photo for my sig. it's that guy puking really hard, except it's coming out of his ears and eyes, too. just imagine that instead of this text. oh look, there he is now!

So here a picture of the freecoster. I will meet with him Friday or Saturday afternoon any final thoughts on this hub before I make the trade. Photo

Are freecoasters trendy? I never thought they were, I remember when they 1st came out they were heavier than cassettes. Are they still heavy?

Hardly anyone in my area uses them or actually I've never seen anyone here use one at all.

Looks kinda like a Revenge brand hub. No discernable logos, but Empire also did one like that for a bit.

Mike Escamilla did that in the Etnies Forward video, it was for a Volume Ad if I recall correctly.

Fire starts at 3:27, although his intro has a little bit of it.

They HAVE to be heavy. Especially since the bearings have to be huge. I mean, it's really only the driver bearing that matters since it takes a lot of side to side load from the clutch, versus a casette which only goes back and forwards indefinitely until you start doing tricks. I mean, it'd be kinda stupid for a hub to have unevenly sized bearings, the inconvenience of replacing bearings, etc. As if mixed hub flange sizes weren't bad enough..
