Just wondering why people hate the cult brand some much

|

12/18/2014 12:55 PM

Pretty sure everyone's over hating cult

|

12/18/2014 1:01 PM

I don't particularly hate or like them (I feel that way about any brand though). Part wise they make some strong stuff like their halflink chains/some of their frames, but a lot of brands will have strong parts, decent parts, and crappy parts; it's why no matter what I ride it's always mixed with what I found to be the strongest parts from all different brands. I did enjoy their "Talk is Cheap" vid.

Or it could be that it is "trendy" to hate on Cult, because of the kind of marketing they do or that most of the Cult team are former Fit members. Sorta like how many people hate on riders who use freecoasters; I like them myself, but I can't afford to buy those kinda hubs (not the good ones at least).

in the past they were pretty bad but they have honestly stepped up their game and plus they got a good warranty anyways.

Ye it just seems like its cool to hate cult

|

12/18/2014 1:06 PM

Why don't you sand against the grain and go buy some cult product

|

12/18/2014 1:09 PM

as eskimojay said nobody really hates cult products anymore and i dont see any reason to hate them now

|

Cult's, Shadow's Interlock 2, and Rhthym's halflink chains are the only halflinks I've used and of the 3 Cult's lasted or should I say was the most reliable for me. I mostly/currently use KMC full link chains, although in my next build I am debating whether to stick with KMC or try Odyssey's Hallow Key chain, but it will still be a full link.

Mine is 3 years old, and my first half link (Shadow Interlock 2) lasted 5 years, neither broke. Ever.

WEEEEEE!!!

But with Cult, I just don't care for the brand. Not really a hatred, but I don't find anything they have to be that special. Same with Fit. They make solid stuff, just not really feelin' it.

I ALMOST bought the Van Homan frame when I got my Federal, but they were out of stock on the Aqua color in the size I wanted, and eta was like a month, so I went with the Federal, and love it.

Key Chain, not even a contest. Best chain design on the market. Half links are so stupid, why would you ever make a chain completely out of weaker links

Yeah, people hating Cult was a thing years ago.

If you asked this question back then, this thread would be at least 2 pages long now with people bitching about why they hate Cult.

Cult has a stupid name
They copied other companies on practically everything when they first came out
They don't make any of their own products

Hubs-primo
chains-kmc
grips-odi
tires-kenda
frames all had the same geometry with different names at first then they copied terrible one and made the stone cold frame with chain stay guards after that they made a few more crap frames

Everyone i know that rides a cult it seems to have dents so i must assume they dent very easy

The most retarded thing is how in the frame description it says cult classic tubbing as if this company has been around for a long time hahahaha like get real

Overall cult is the biggest copy cat company we will ever see in bmx history, dehart tires are nice lol

I dislike Cult due to, Every kid i know with no common sense says "EEERG Sunday is not the strongest, CULT IS" Ok you think that. I've owned Cult,Dk,Kink,Fit & Verde, of those none broke because i switch it up alot, Never seen a sunday break, Have seen cult, verde and subrosa crack in person.

CULT is a GENERIC copycat brand, The trend of cult more than likely started because the name. Because every little poser kid wants to have "CULT" on their shirt to make people think they're satanic or some garbage, People used to do that with Shadow Conspiracy too.\

I don't hate Cult i hate the people that come with it when you buy a Cult part. You suddenly become a poser faggot unless you can ride hard, I see Cult on the bikes of which the owners ride once a month and post "BMX is lief" "420 blayze eit" all the fucking time on instagram, they are also some of the literal gayest and dumbest kids i have ever met, Posting your male friends dick pics on instagram is not ok, especially when you've done it on more than 2 separate occasions.

So let me get this straight, if someone rides a brand you don't like they are immediately labeled a "poser faggot" unless they ride hard and have to ride more than once a month, Man I'm intensely taking notes right now, I want to make sure I can follow your guidelines and not become a poser fag.

But seriously the world does not revolve around you, people are entitled to buy whatever they want and to ride as often as they want, They don't have to please you or I, I don't see a need to attack or label people that like different things or brands, I just ride my bike and have fun, no need to impress everyone.

Evidently, You don't see the point of that at all whatsoever..

"You suddenly become a poser faggot unless you can ride hard, I see Cult on the bikes of which the owners ride once a month and post "BMX is lief" "420 blayze eit" all the fucking time on instagram"

I Bought Cult parts, Automatically nearly everyone who is a 'poser' thinks that part is cool because it has the name Cult on it, they don't even know the name of the part.

On the other side, one of the best locals, The only one that is actually really good and rides alot, Rides ALL CULT, He gets it free (Lots of friends in Bmx i guess) and i don't include him in the group of idiots who think Cult is the best company ever created because he doesn't think that, He's also like 27.

Riding once a month if that and posting bmx is life all over instagram. THAT is the definition of a poser. When i see a GIANT Cult sticker and they're under 18 i automatically assume they ride just to seem cool or they actually ride, the former is what it usually has turned out to be,but not always true, If they ride Cult and don't annoy the fuck out of everyone with "Cult is life", more power to them, Two of my best friends ride Cult parts, as do i most of the time, just without Cult stickers still on.

"I don't hate Cult i hate the people that come with it when you buy a Cult part."

I don't think that the world revolves around me nor does it you, it's a thread asking why people hate Cult, i simply made a statement as to why i dislike the company.

Merry Christmas

I think you definitely didn't read my post because it still applies even to your second post, but I'll leave it at that, i'm pretty sure there's kids out there that can't even put wheels on a bike or even know what a hub is and they like all kinds of brands, also a lot of them are beginners that only know cult or fit and only buy completes so they don't know the names of the parts and stuff.

Also I have a friend the only rides once maybe twice a month and he loves BMX, he just doesn't have the time to ride every single day, same with me I only get to ride on weekends but that's because I have a wife and 3 kids and a job, but then again I don't go around saying BMX is life or any of that lol.

Maybe if you put your bike together correctly it wouldn't be a problem.

GorillaKing37 wrote:

Putting a bike together correctly has nothing to do with the fact that half link chain links are pre-bent.

Pre-bent links means more stretching because all that pressure from pedaling & yanking the links, and it doesn't take a genius to know bending metal like that can cause it to break.

Having a full link chain with just one half link in it is more ideal, but I personally don't like that because I've broken 2 chains by snapping the half link. And yes it was put together properly, factory installed actually, and my drive chain is perfect and never too tight.

That being said, half links seem to be hit or miss for people. Some people will have one for years, some will have them a few weeks.

Hubs-primo: Front hub is nothing like any Primo front hub, rear v1 is but only because they share the same warehouse, same with Stranger which is why they also rebranded it. V2 is a different shell design but same internals as the Mix/Match, but not Remix. The Remix uses different bearings & a different axle

chains-kmc: Well this is awkward because first off, KMC makes virtually every chain out there along with PYC & a few others, and the Cult chains are actually not even KMC, they are PYC.

grips-odi: ODI is the same story as KMC, they make A LOT of grip designs. To call Cult a copycat for that is to call several other brands a copycat as well. Just because a company does not list it on their site as "Made by ODI" does not mean that they don't, because chances are they do. Next you'll tell me their pedals copy Wellgo, LOLOL.

tires-kenda: See above, since you have learning trouble apparently.

frames all had the same geometry with different names at first: Another learning impairment for you apparently. They were all the same geometry with different names because different companies made them. They wanted to give people a choice, the reasoning behind that I forget since it was so long ago. I think they wanted to compare strength/quality but I don't remember.

Everyone i know that rides a cult it seems to have dents: Yes, things dent. My Sunday frame has dents, my friend's Skavenger has dents, my friend's Mirraco has dents. Frames dents.

The most retarded thing is how in the frame description it says cult classic tubbing as if this company has been around for a long time hahahaha like get real: I'm about 99% sure the "Cult Classic" tubing has absolutely nothing to do with the age, but instead is a reference to Cult Classic Films, which have a "Cult Following" so it's more or less a fancy name for their tubing like some companies give fancy names to their heat treatments and shit.

Overall cult is the biggest copy cat company we will ever see in bmx history: False, they may have started out as a bit of a copycat, but there are for sure bigger ones, and they are nothing at all like a copycat company today. You would know that if you did any bit of research instead of Googling gay illuminati porn all day.
