Like if Stevie and I could do the exact same tricks, they would sponsor Stevie over me regardless of my skills because Stevie is more popular. If Red Bull had Stevie Churchill on their team, more kids would be drinking Red Bull. That's just how companies think.
That is probably the reason why Stevie isn't on Red Bull or Monster or Vans or Nike because he is potentially saying " I ride for On Some Shit and I really am on some shit." Whether he smokes weed or not, he LIVES with people who do, therefore he is around it a lot and it gives him a negative vibe.
If Stevie still lived in CT or anywhere on the Easter Coast, he would probably have more sponsors.
Look who all those companies already have though. Theyre teams are stacked and overfilled.
Theyre not solely sponsoring riders to attract other riders to buy their products. Theyre also sponsoring riders who drag the interest of NON-riders to both their company and BMX. Yes stevie is an amazing rider, but outside of his bangers (which are usually all variations of the same trick..), his riding really isnt that interesting to someone who doesn't ride and have appreciation for the amount of work it takes to throw down a technical line. All they care about is who is more death defying. Who goes fastest, who can spin the most, who can hit the biggest handrails and roof drops, who makes it look easiest, etc. Stevies bangers are great but thats not his strong point and if you watch all his edits youll notice theyre all very similar, where other riders can throw huge bangers in multiple, totally different ways and styles.
He is popular and he is an amazing rider, but to be completely honest, hes really not as popular as everyone seems to think and hes really not anywhere near close to being the "best" street rider. He is one of the best tech street riders, no doubt, but he has a lack of variety which puts him down the list in overall street.
