Why doesn't Stevie get more money?

Kind of a blatant question but why not? Chad Kerley , Garrett Reynolds , Nigel Sylvester are all making BOATLOADS of cash for riding for Nike 6.0. People who ride for Redbull get a fuckload of money (Anthony Messere a sponsored MTB rider was talking to me about it) and I was just wondering why Stevie chooses not to get huge sponsors. Not that I care , as long as he's happy , but you'd think if you got with Nike or an energy drink company , he'd have more opportunities to bike?

He's easily one of the best riders out streetwise , so I'd just like to think he's had major sponsors that'd rack him up both more cash and trips/parts/etc

I think maybe it's more because he just enjoys riding? Don't get me wrong, I know what you're saying, but is would imagine he's happy where he's at possibly

He probably doesn't want to be tied down to just one company or something, or he wants to just have fun on his bike & do his own thing.

|

5/30/2014 7:29 PM

I'm guessing he makes a decent amount. Adam22 bathes in money and I think Stevie lives with him so he probably doesn't need to pay many bills! Stevie wins contests pretty often too which gives him a little extra cash.

Seems kinda likely though doesn't it? I mean whether you love him or hate him, he is arguably the biggest name in BMX at the moment.

So Nike and every energy drink company should offer people sponsorships just because theyre popular? Hell, there must be a shit ton of people missing out on their free sponsorships then.

Also, look who Stevie rides for/with. You think big name companies that are present in a good majority of society outside of BMX want to be associated with someone who is also sponsored by a brand called "On Some Shit" and is tagged in/posts videos viewed by thousands of people that involve drug use and other illegal/inappropriate activities?

Dont get me wrong, Stevie gives me the impression hes a really good guy, and I believe he doesn't smoke actually, BUT he has a negative reputation built by the people he hangs out with.

Tim is spot on , that's how I see it.

I know Reynolds was pretty intent on substances a few years ago but I think he cut it out lately , and almost never posted it IF at all in edits , I just saw it on his facebook. He's a good influence I'd say.

I'm not saying that it's the right thing to do but since companies want more money, it seems likely that they would sponsor popular people.

Like if Stevie and I could do the exact same tricks, they would sponsor Stevie over me regardless of my skills because Stevie is more popular. If Red Bull had Stevie Churchill on their team, more kids would be drinking Red Bull. That's just how companies think.

That is probably the reason why Stevie isn't on Red Bull or Monster or Vans or Nike because he is potentially saying " I ride for On Some Shit and I really am on some shit." Whether he smokes weed or not, he LIVES with people who do, therefore he is around it a lot and it gives him a negative vibe.

If Stevie still lived in CT or anywhere on the Easter Coast, he would probably have more sponsors.

I honestly think Stevie will eventually Ride for "bigger" companies, Parts wise though Federal & Eclat are big names! NOTHING to turn Your nose up at! I think some people are actually over looking who He DOES Ride for! Popular Big Named Companies in BMX, just not outside of BMX like a Mega Company such as Red Bull.

Look who all those companies already have though. Theyre teams are stacked and overfilled.

Theyre not solely sponsoring riders to attract other riders to buy their products. Theyre also sponsoring riders who drag the interest of NON-riders to both their company and BMX. Yes stevie is an amazing rider, but outside of his bangers (which are usually all variations of the same trick..), his riding really isnt that interesting to someone who doesn't ride and have appreciation for the amount of work it takes to throw down a technical line. All they care about is who is more death defying. Who goes fastest, who can spin the most, who can hit the biggest handrails and roof drops, who makes it look easiest, etc. Stevies bangers are great but thats not his strong point and if you watch all his edits youll notice theyre all very similar, where other riders can throw huge bangers in multiple, totally different ways and styles.

He is popular and he is an amazing rider, but to be completely honest, hes really not as popular as everyone seems to think and hes really not anywhere near close to being the "best" street rider. He is one of the best tech street riders, no doubt, but he has a lack of variety which puts him down the list in overall street.

Yes. You're right! I agree with you! I actually said in a thread about the OSS videos that I thought that Stevie's videos have been repetitive lately. I think that if BMX itself was a lot more popular then people would appreciate tech much more. Non-riders see someone do like a feeble to smith to hard 180 and think "Psh, I could do that. That isn't hard." They just don't understand how difficult BMX really is.

he donest make shit for money. adam basically pay for everything. he gets some money from his sponsors, but i have seen how he spends it and its not what you would expect or want to hear. he is pretty happy doing what he is doing right now and he makes enough from contests that he doesnt have to worry about it

The Mind Boggles, nah. Hookers probably Hookers...

He seems like a decent enough kid, I don't wanna spread shit whether it's true or not.

|

5/31/2014 1:07 PM

He makes enough. And since Adam probably pays for the food and whatnot, all he has to worry about is rent. He really can just chill I bet. Any money he makes can honestly go to anything he wants. I hope he is smart enough to save it so in case he is seriously injured or has a health problem he can pay for the expenses.

Let's face it, he is probably better off than most and has as nice a bike as you could ask for. I think Stevie is doing just fine. Not rich, but he isn't hurting for money.

Yes , but Nike still sponsors riders , so it's technically the same.

"basically Nike is transitioning the dilution of the 6.0 brand to focus on Snowboarding, Surf, and Skate. The BMX riders for instance will be under new contracts from Nike but perhaps you will see them wearing signature sneakers such as Koston 1s or other Nike athletic models."

Nike is still in BMX. They sponsor Enarson, Nigel, Garrett, Kerley, Kriss Kyle, Jason Phelan, Daniel Tünte, Simone Barraco, Alex Kennedy, and probably a few I'm forgetting...
