Curious to see the worst parts anyone has ever ridden. Not by brand or anything, but due to premature failure or poor build/material quality.

I’ll go first.

Reed stark BSD pedals - feel very flimsy and damage easily.
Shadow little ones PVC peg sleeve - cracked and wore out really quickly
FBM PMA Frontload - bolt hole stripped out, although this is likely due to previous owner fucking it up
Cult vans grips - do I really need to say anything?
Fiction grips - absolute hard rubber garbage
Any Barend that isn’t hard plastic or metal
Stolenbikeco cranks - 19mm 48 spline, have this weird ass issue where the sprocket bolt hole sits slightly lower than the spindle hole so the sprocket sits unevenly when bolted down

About all I can think of off the top of my head - let’s hear yours!

PSA because I know someone’s going to do this: user error doesn’t equal bad part. Stripped threads, cracked face plates, crushed bars, all that stuff and more is user error except in rare cases.

That said, Kink Viridian front hub for me. Tiny ass 6802 bearings in the hub shit out multiple times, and after the first couple rides it sounded and spun like shit. I was a little annoyed with Kink cause I hit them up about it and they were like yeah it’s not really a street hub… But they made a hub guard for it? Whatever haha

I have a few more but they’re most personal complaints like I didn’t like how this tire felt or how these bars felt, etc, so I’ll leave it at that. I usually look heavily into parts before getting them myself and luckily almost always like them

The Primo N4FL front hub.

Stolen Revolver rim.

In full agreement of the Vans grips. I really wanted to like them, but simply couldn't.

I second the N4FL hub...thing fucking sucks

Don’t put 25.4 bars in a 22.2 stem.

The N4FL Hub. I knew something was wrong day one. Lol.

Plastic pedals.

Since I feel like the N4FL Hub will be the winner of this thread, I'll give a mention to something else.

The Colony Colonial cranks are the bane of my existence. I had to go to an empty parking lot in the middle of no where to get them off my bike. It legit sounded like gun shots. Worst part about it is that I had them for like 2 weeks. I just left them in the parking lot.

The Éclat cortex was disappointing. Other than being crunchy it had hella play even when tightened properly and it doesn’t crankflip if yall care about that

Any clear plastic pedal because they crack easily. Odyssey twisted pc, and the new compound animal Hamilton pedals because they wear down quickly.
Fbm hardway v1 because you couldn't get a decent chainline with it {had to put a dimple in the cs even for a 25t sprocket).

|

Nukeproof plastic pedals. They are held on the spindle, by a metal end cap screwed in plastic threads in the pedal body, and always come loose eventually (and you can't crank it tight because you'll freeze the pedal or strip the threads). I ended up using Araldite epoxy glue for threadlock.

Anything Stolen brand.

I'm really curious about the grips people are saying. How badly can you fcuk up a grip!?

I have one that's trouble free but I rode pegless. What's the issue?

WTP Lock Stock bars. Snapped without cracking - no warning.

Fit Indent 3-piece 24mm cranks. Either side would get loose at least once a week. Had to stash an 8mm allen in every backpack, toolbox and car.

Had a Specialized Fuse 4 complete BMX back in the day. It was pretty fancy, with MTB aluminum cranks and a euro BB. The drop outs on that frame were play-doh. Bent in no time from my amateur grinds.

V1 Shadow interlock chain, crunchy as hell
United Value cranks (don’t know what I expected for $150AUD), snapped in less than 6 months
I loved profile cranks but I broke an arm a year for 7 years
T1 tyres on anything other than skatelite or grippy concrete

I quite like the original Ross grips. Super soft and tacky

DK MPH sealed headset back in like 05. Bearings were toast before it was in the frame.

Primo Wall tires. I NEVER had one that lasted through one flat, even with tire levers. The bead fell apart CONSTANTLY.

Integral 9t Driver (it was primo, but you couldn't find ANYTHING for it ANYWHERE like 2 months after it was released).

My thunderbolts were like this. I tried a bunch of different spacer combinations, but it didn’t matter. They always got loose after a day or two. I ended up getting rid of them and got some 3 piece Subrosa cranks and haven’t had an issue since. Once in a while I give the bolts like a quarter turn, but they never feel loose and wobbly like my thunderbolts did.

Odyssey Twisted PC Pedals. Blew a pair up in less than two hours of putting them on the bike.

I had Madera Protocol cranks for a while back about 10 years ago. Broke a crank every 4-6 months and got a free replacement everytime. Finally switched them out with Fit Indent cranks Blew them up in a year or two. Now have CULT OS cranks for 8+ years.

Can’t believe we’ve made it 20+ replies without anyone mentioning the elementary…

For the record, I always wanted one and any friends of mine who ran them loved them, but they always seem to pop up in this sort of conversation

They were fine with low bars. Most people that had problems over torqued them. Then as bars got taller, they became more prone to slipping

That makes sense, I didn’t personally know anyone who ran one after 2008. Like I said, always thought they were sick

shadow little one peg sleeves were awful, i think i grinded one thing that may have been rough and they were torn

broc raiford grips: i loved them at the time, but since running other grips i realized how truly crappy they were, they wore out super fast compared to everything else i've tried since and aren't any softer

back in the day:

primo hemorrhoid seat: everyone had them but they lasted maybe one bail and they ripped, no one had a clean hemorrhoid seat...other brands came out with the same shape but much better construction

Mine had movement in it. Like I could tighten the fem axles down however hard and shit still wiggled.

To be fair most seats did that back in the day. My S&M shield seat lasted a couple months. I know seth Kimbroughs old Hoffman glittery seat lasted a month before it was duct taped. I remember seeing Mirra change his Haro Mirra seat on the Mirra Supertour.

90s/2000s were still being made for comfort so they got punctured easier.
