I bet it's in your crank if it's only when your left foot goes down, most likely due to your cranks shifting on the spindle.

take the arm off & grease the splines, then put it back on & if you have a pinch bolt, make sure to tighten that well also. Do the same thing to your other side too just to eliminate the chance of that doing the same thing, then try & see if it makes a noise again

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be my bottom bracket. It broke somehow and the inner ring (where the spindle sits?) would wobble like crazy.

the amount of times i feel a creek or pop or something from pedalling, and i think i know what it is, and im wrong is probs in the hundreds. tbh, its probably not what you think :L
