Here is tip for riding without brakes, do not drag your feet or jam it in the tire. Gently stomp your feet before you must come to a complete stop or when you do need to come to a complete stop, just insert your foot into the rear tire to completely make it stop. This will not mess your shoes up as much overtime. In addition, riding through grass helps. I do all of these things and my bottom's still look brand new on my Lotek Hoder signature shoes.

Step one: Brakeless*
Step two: Be easy on the sliding of feet. Put your foot in your front tire. I do it and I get two years out of my shoes.
Step three: Many*
Step four: Buy Vans, Lotek, Etnies, or Nike shoes. All good brands and all support bmx in one way pr another.
Walk yourself to slow down or just stomp a few times real good. The grass works real good but I tend not to do it cause of OCD and stuff..

The BEST way to quickly come to a stop when riding brakeless is to shift your body just past the rear of your seat and sti down hard on your tire. You will come to a stop so fast, it will surprise you!

I have the Etnies brake shoe, so far so good.
BUT the best advice I have is don't drag your feet, or if you do, slide them LEVEL on the ground, not just toes or heels. This way it even wears them down.
And keep your feet out of the tires unless you are doing a footjam.

I'm looking into getting some new riding shoes because I have destroyed my current vans. I'm trying to go with something different and thought about converse. Are they good for riding bmx and do they last?

This is an old thread, BUT it does still have validity since no kids ever run brakes, so we can let it slide.
I run some Vans now, but I have brakes.
I had good luck with Adio-no longer around sadly.
Osiris were good
Nike were good
Etnies were good too.
Brakeless is rough on shoes and or tires. No idea about converse.

Converse aren't made for riding/skating in. So they'll probably be rubbish. Etnies jameson 2 eco are where it's at. My last pair lasted a year, then I got some marana's and the sole started to wear really quickly. Now I've got another pair of jameson 2 eco, and the sole hasn't worn at all

Yeah I just got etnies Jameson's and they seem solid and the stick to the pedals great.
Vans here, have had them before i had the BMX though, bought them but didn't really like them as an everyday shoe for walking around in, so they got left in the cupboard, but i do like them for riding in.
dont go with nike sb check solars ive had the whole sole seperate from the shoe just from pinching cranks
