So i really wanna get a new bottom bracket like these, Dans Comp. But my question is i have a 09 Diamondback grind frame and i dont know what set will fit or is it like universal?
I have a set of 8spline 3pc cranks from a diamondback skindog in it too. (incase that matters?)

take a pic of your cranks, i know my friends diamond back just has the caged bearing BB, and if it has that. you will need to buy a completely new spindle or crank set. plus the bearing cups they use in caged bearing BB can be a pain to get out.

but just take a pic and well see what you got and go from there

my guess is that its a mid/american, that seems to be most common these days

pics didnt work, but yea best bet its a caged mid BB, so you would need to get a new spindle/crank set. and the new BB, the biggest issue will be getting the bearing cups out of the frame. best bet would be to try and find a socket extension and a hammer and try to knock them out

you will need this in either mid or american depending on your BB size

Then if you want some decent cranks for a decent price, id suggest these

Thats pretty much same as the stolen ones just cheaper right?
and why would i need a different set of crank arms?

my spindly is already 8spline....i think? That means theres 8 little notches on each side for the arms to slide onto right? if so thats what ive got.

|

7/22/2010 12:34 AM

clicks

best i could find, but there you would just be buying it for the spindle only if you dont want to switch to new crank arms.

yeah mines 8 spline already i jsut dunno if its 19 or 22mm. it came of a 08 diamondback skindog. (i think it was 08) its the shit brown one....

**EDIT
So i got on the official DB site and found the bike my cranks came out of and it says they are. "Loose ball w/ 8-spline 19mm axle" So if im correct i can order http://www.danscomp.com/456053.php?cat=PARTS

not quite. the spindle on your bike right now is specially made for loose ball bearings. meaining that it has threads on it for the cups to cake the bearings together this is what your spindle will look like when you take it out, it will not work with a sealed BB. thats why you will need to get a new spindle and/or cranks.

trust me on this one man, my haro x2 came stock with the loose ball bearings and i wanted sealed BB like you are, i had to drop around 108 on a new crank setup.

this is what i have, scroll down to bottom of page to the EIGHT-SPLINE THREE-PIECE CRANKSET, its what i bought like a year ago, and i still use those cranks on my new frame. try and find a lbs that carries them or can order them. its worth the money because they come with everything you need,

id i looked at all that but i just dont see how the threads are gonna be a problem. wont the spacers and stuff hold it all in there?

I have the same crankset, and everything, you need a Mission 8-spline spindle, and a sealed American bottom bracket. (any brand will do) http://missionbmx.com/products/crank-sets/8-spline-spindle/ .... http://www.danscomp.com/456061.php?cat=PARTS

so no matter what i gotta get a new spindle?

Yes, because on a sealed bottom bracket there is no threads on the spindle. Trust me on this one because i already did this.

different type of bb, yours is unsealed... you want to get a sealed, nothing threads on on a sealed bb

urs is a unsealed bb and u want a sealed bb. but ur spindle is for a unsealed bb so if u get sealed bb and ur spindle is for a unsealedd bb that is a big no-no. u need a new spindle like the ones they showed u so that it would work with the sealed bb.

but... i think u should just drop bout $400 and get a nice stock bike wtp's got some nice ones. u should wait till uve know more bout bmxs to start building a custom.

hope this helps.

the main issues with the threading on the spindle you have right now is that it is in those spots bigger than 19mm, plus where those threads are, is most likely where the sealed BB will be rotating, so the threads would destroy the sealed BB. ill take pics of my old spindle and my new one so you can see.

hmmm i guess the cheapest way ive found to do is order this?

If you know a cheaper way please list it.

This is the sealed BBs i want right? So if i order this all i should have to do is take out my old setup. take a socket extension and knock out the things inside the frame and slide in the new spindle, cranks and stuff?

yes you will, just take a socket and a hammer and go around the edge of the cup tapping it out.
