The Tree cable is the best cable you can get. I've ran a bunch of cables, Odyssey, Animal, etc., and none are nearly as good as the Tree. No need to say any more.

I really like my Kink Desist brake. It's 7075 so it's really stiff and strong. The little pivots for the straddle cable help smooth your brake, and the cable hanger is awesome and takes away so much flex. My only complaint is they wobble a bit on my brake mounts.

I also really like my dual compound Kool Stop BMX pads. They can lock up your wheel really well but are also great if you like to tap your brakes on manuals. Only complaint is they flex a bit. I use them with Bluesix Titanium nuts, which are awesome because they are 6mm rather than the typical 5mm so it's more convenient.

Fairly cheap set up would be a odyssey cable and evo2's.

Always felt nice when I ran that set up.

This guy knows what he's talking about.
Running Desists myself, and I'm no Kink fanboy. These are amazing brakes. Light, effective and possibly the best designed straddle cable/brake arm pivot setup EVER.
And Kool Stop dual compounds have great stopping power, even in less than optimal conditions.
Dunno nothing bout no titanium or Tree cable myself. I run whatever linear cable is available at my LBS, which ATM is Kink. Before that WTP. Of those the WTP was better.
Oddy Evos are a nice second choice. Not nearly as good, but they do the job at a reasonable cost.

I agree with Ohio on the Tree cable, hands down the best cable out there. In the 5 years I've been riding only a month might have been without brakes. I have tried literally every cable out there and there is no replacement for the Tree. As far as brakes I think the only kind I haven't tried are the Deist. I'm currently running the Shadow Sano and I'm super happy with them. I went with them because they are fully CNC'd. I've ran evo's and were happy with them along with fly manuals (super simple setup) But they flexed and I prefer a tight set up. The pads that came with them are super grippy as well. I think the only reason why people hate brakes is because they've never ran a dialed set up. There is nothing better in the world than a brake set up that works like it should. I also believe people get turned off from riding their buddies POS system. Only thing I really recommend is to not go cheap or you'll be taking them right back off.

I always found my braking depended on a good cable and a good set of pads, as long as the lever feels right to you, the calipers can be pretty much any, a well set up hombre will feel as good as an evo2.

I agree with this, ,a fresh cable and good pads are the only things you need for a good brake setup, my animal cable was a bit stretched but stopped you on abubaca's on the dime and my éclat pads to replace the stock ditatech ones where zoo grippy, plus my diatech hombres were good, just tune them once and you're set but I have the oddy spring fields right now

I recommend those! No need to tune them just put them on, get éclat pads and you're set!

I'm on board with Mychaylo, but to a further extent. I think the evo 2 and other calipers in it's price range are a waste of money. My 20 dollar tektro brakes feel just as good as the evo two's I met a guy on. You just have to tune em in right. But tree cable, v brake style pads like the koolstop and that monolever. The sano lever is beast too. My kink whip cable is awesome so far, but I'll be upgrading to tree sometime.

Alright so i'm this far into it now
This amazing tree cable you are all talking about and the good old Tech 77 leaver. I love it because it feels really nice when using two fingers and is just the right size for me.

as for hangers i used to have problems with the internal strings alot. Probably user error at the most but what do you guys think of the odyssey springfield hangers? And for pads i'm guessing clear ones would work the best usually because they are a softer compound? then what pads should i grab? Thanks for all the help so far. I know i won't be using the brakes all the time but ill keep them on just incase i need them at a good setup or if i'm having some ramp fun with a mate. So if it help, i won't be the person to go through pads like crazy

The clear pads that came with my Shadow Sano are clear and they work leaps and bounds better than the odyssey ghost pads I used before
