because the tooth ring inside the hub is drive side specific as far as the teeth are concerned. and they are also threaded into the hub shell. regular threaded for rhd and reverse threaded for lhd. just like freewheeels.

I highly doubt it. My hub is a high end Salt hub so it's RHD and LHD compatible. Haven't tried switching it cause I don't really need to.
