the pedal threads on my Stolen 2.5 cranks are so stripped that I tapping them doesn't work anymore. Can you put a helicoil type of thread insert in bmx cranks?

You probably could, but I would look into replacing the side that is stripped, or contact Stolen and see if they can do anything for you.

You can "do" anything but I wouldn't trust it

generally speaking, there isn't enough material in steel cranks to drill it out big enough to helicoil. I would start saving for new cranks.

In the meantime, you could use either some red Loctite, or there is some shit called Belzona. It's a really strong epoxy, kinda like JB weld, but stronger. The Navy uses it to make temporary repairs to leaking pipes. You could try that.

this, with todays super hollow spindles, I doubt theyd be a huge amount of material left after drilling larger and tapping for a helicoil. Theoretically it'll work, but how well depends on how hollowed out your spindle is.

Failing all of the above, you COULD try contacting a welder who can do Chromoly, see if they can fill in on the pedal boss, and then drill it out and have a shop try to re-tap it?

Honestly I would just save for some cranks, maybe hit up the for sale section or homies to see if anyone can loan you a set for a while until you can replace them.

This sounds like an awesome idea, but so much to go through in finding a welder and then the cost of the work, it sounds like it may just be easier to buy new crank arms lol

I have a race crank that is helicoiled. So i'm sure it can work for you. Just don't expect to change pedals without a new coil to use.

Yea, it likely would be a fair amount of cost involved, you would be better off replacing the arm.

Was it the one connected to the spindle or the one by itself?
