Anyone know if any company has tried to utilise ceramic bearings in a bmx application?
I know road bikes use them and maybe skateboards?
Not sure if we'd even reach speeds for them to be useful or maybe crush them lol

Yeah they're out there and they're crazy expensive. Kink makes them for Bottom Brackets, Headsets, etc... Basically any part that requires a bearing. But when your average headseat is around 20 bucks and kink charges 100 for a ceramic one, it's kinda hard to justify, unless it comes with a free tuggy.

For racing, yes. Freestyle, Kink does? Honestly you could grab the code off the side of your bearings and find some ceramic ones that match it.

I was thinking more for hubs to reduce rolling friction? But if you can't notice a difference I might not bother.
Thanks guys

there was a thread on here awhile back where someone brought up that it does reduce friction greatly, but the benefits aren't going to be noticeable unless you're going very very fast which the average street rider usually doesn't. Racing yes, dirt maybe, but not street really.

Though, if you use your bike to get from place to place, and that place has lots of hills, and you have no brakes, and you have ceramic bearings...
haha naa might be worth a shot... i'll see what kinda deals I can get from friendly local bike salesman

meh. idk i would think that riding street and shit would crush the bearings pretty quick... i mean, ceramic bearings get all fucked up skating too. i would just think bmx would be too roguh... but i could be wrong

There is a tad more to absorb the stresses of BMX vs skateboards, what with pneumatic tires and all. But yea, I would say it is probably not worth the cost in my mind.
