Pretty sure my chain is rubbing (hub makes ticking sound when peddling only)
Is it okay to angle grind the edges of the guard away? And will that fix the issue? If not I'll just buy the jersey barrier

What hub and guard are you running.
I had a primo diver side who has a really small clearance for chain.
Now i'm running the kink driver side, just slide in, lot of chain clearance, durable crmo (plastic guards are stupid), the best driver guard.
Think it's a division? Never heard of them but I needed a guard for a BSD pro and it was the only one they had that fit the axle.
It's kinda annoying and I'm sure the chain wouldn't like it over time

try adding a thin spacer between the guard and the hub

BSD makes a hubguard specifically for that hub, why don't you use that? it replaces the press-on hardware for a perfect fit.
