cutting for tube question

on odyssey directors how far down can i cut the forktube ? i wanna slam my stem down on top of my headset cap with no spacers

You should leave like 5-7mm of spacers to accommodate for frames having varying head tube lengths. But never cut into the threads of a fork. Cut to the top of threads and that's it

will the bolt like bottom out on the threads if i cut the forktube though ? sorry if that doesnt make sense i cant explain what im trying to say

It doesn't bottom out. When the bolt hits the end of the threads it just keeps going. And that's why ody and primo forks have that thread less gap on fork bolt. So if you cut your steerer tube you can cut the compression bolt too

i knew thats why the bolt looked like that , you sure you can just cut the bolt ?

Just cut as far down as you can, it doesn't have to be perfect. I just did mine and it came out great. I love he slammed look but I decided to leave enough for a 5mm spacer just invade a new stem or frame comes along as Tom said. It's super easy and honestly doesn't have to be perfectly straight just mostly. Photo
