My bike scene local park is mostly made up of riders who swear by cassette and metal pegs, and strongly dislike 4 pegs free coaster with either metal or plastic pegs. I can understand the need to be unique but is there really anything wrong with 4 pegs coaster. I ride 2 pegs cassette so I’m pretty neutral but I’m curious what y’all think.

It sounds like your local park is stuck in the year 2010 lol

I could care less what anyone’s riding as long as they’re having fun and not being a dick

Quad M Pegs with coaster is ultimate > : )))))) I never understood why people cared what others ride lol, the only thing I'll pay attention about others is the tricks they do, or if there bike just looks really crisp. People pull up with rainbow bikes with 22t sprockets and 1 inch tires and they still shred like crazy!!

I’m not one to follow trends. I’m 40 years old, so I have been there and done that so to speak. My current bike is the first that I have owned in 25 years. I bought it because it is just like the one I had when I was a kid. I had no regard for what was popular when I bought it. I only cared that it was the right bike for me.

I’ve had neighbors comment about how they think I should be on a bigger bike, and even my wife has teased me about the “girly” color scheme. Still, I love the damned thing and that’s all that matters.

Personally, I may toss front and rear pegs on my bike even though I don’t (at least not yet) do any tricks, just because that is how my old bike was set up as a kid. I also might spring for a set of white Skyway mag wheels for the same reason.

Do what suits you, and enjoy your bike. Don’t let anyone or any trend dictate what changes you might choose to make. Just because Joe Blow the Pro likes his bike a certain way, doesn’t mean that you will like the same setup. Be as original as you can. Fuck the haters in life.

Ride how you like

If you are good at oppo grinds and take off 2 pegs just because other ppl ride 2 pegs is foolish

Even when ppl rode slammed seats. I never found ti useful for me, so I never lowered my seat and still ride my seat a bit higher than other ppl

Just ride whatever the heck you want. I’ve been the only pegless cassette rider at my local for years. Everyone I ride with has plastic pegs and coasters.

Ride however. Ride the style you like. Fuck what others think. People who judge people over their bike set up or their style of riding are called dickheads. They're usually just bitter.

It's called freestyle. Ride what you want

Punch the biggest one in the face and kiss his girl to assert your dominance.
Ride what you want to.

Who cares, Ride what you like/want if anyone has a problem with that they're mentally retarded and their opinions don't mean shit.

Sounds like those other riders are morons.

Ride what you like. If they try to give you crap, bust some switch grinds or fakie for a mile or something.

Usually just takes a rider killing it with something different to change the mindset of the locals.

to me bmx isn't about trends. its about freedom (the whole point of freestyle lol) with how you ride and what you ride...ride what makes you happy, not what makes someone else happy.

Ive switched from 2 metal pegs cassette to 4 metal pegs freecoaster this summer and i didnt even know theres something about it😂 well now i do grind both sides and know how to freecoaster. My fakies got way way longer and my overall bike feeling improved due to comparison maybe.
4 peg freecoaster is a fun thing to ride

Everyone should ride how they want. But, following a trend isn’t going to make you better. It can also be quite limiting. 2 pegs is less options than 4. No pegs makes you use spots differently. Cassettes can limit fakie tricks, but coasters can sometimes be a cheaty way of landing poorly from a an under rotated 180.

Personally, I’m pegless and cassette. I really enjoyed a freecoaster for a while. A lot of riders with pegs literally don’t do anything but ride ledges. Some peg riders are still really good at using spots and finding stuff.

Elf’s section from dollar bet is my current favourite section, even though he uses pegs a lot.
I watched federal fts for the first time the other day, and every section pretty much blended into the next and I couldn’t keep track of who I was watching.

This.

Every setup has pros and cons. Find what you like, and run it. Change it up once in a while to freshen riding up.

I tossed front brakes back on a month or so ago, rode a couple sessions, and they are off already. Gonna go pegless for a bit.

(snow = not riding sadly).

Trendy definitely doesn’t mean bad by default. The riding and bikes are like are more or less what was trendy when I started riding. Doing something specifically because it’s trendy kinda lacks authenticity and conviction but it’s still fine if it’s what makes you happy.

I totally agree with the comments here. I think caring about trends is an age thing. When I was a teenager, I'd care about if others thought I had something "cool" or not. Now at 45, I couldn't care less. Im not out to impress anyone. Just got my Sunday and rode it for the first time on Tuesday. I was smiling from ear to ear the whole time.

Do they all do the same tricks too? Yeah, that's the problem with some of these groups is that because humans are social animals we unconsciously take clues from our social environments and if you're kinda weak in your identity you can be easily influenced to copy what you see peers do and also to shun the same things they do which is why those guys are probably all stuck on the same setup and are probably all.stuck on the same tricks too... if you want to ride and be like them, then take their advice. Otherwise do what feels good to you and ignore outside criticism. Those guys all probably ride the same things cause they're a tight.group that's afraid to break their own mold and I'm not so sure that's the kind of person you wanna be at the end of the day.

This.

Be weird (at least in comparison to them) and do your own thing.
