any ideas why this is happeneding

Okay, this could be a few things.
1) your chain has a tight spot in it or something, oil it.
2) looks to be a semi sealed hub. You should take the dirve side apart and clean everything, and lube it.
3) if it isnt a semi sealed hub, the bearing is blown. But if it is a semi sealed hub, you have your drive side nut too tight!
4) Maybe your chain is too tight, loosen it up haha
5) the pawls may be dirty inside the hub.
