yup the only way to remove them is to take the grip off. If you want a good reliable lever/perch that's pretty cheap you should look into the Diatech Tech 77 lever, it's hinged for easy removal...but honestly i think just taking the grip off would be easier (and of course cheaper) than ordering a whole new lever. If you can't twist your grip off, just create a gap between your grip and the bar, spray some WD44 in there, twist it around and then take the grip off. Once it's off, let the grip dry and clean the remaining WD40 off both surfaces and then put your grip on.
