Thought id put this all in one place... Finished the hub guard for my éclat tech hub, 7075t6, might redo it so its thicjer at the back... My mate is running a prototype i made for him of a profile/madera guard, i reckon his looks better than mine! Also i got some proper grub screws for my bar ends. Stoked! Next week ill finish the profile/madera guard, might design a wedge bar end. Let me know what you think and any suggestions for new parts/improve current designs.Photo

I don't like the shape of both of them. On the Profile/Madera one I'd be scared of landing on the flat part next to the spokes all the time and on the last pictures it looks fat as hell. I'd do it steeper from the part sitting at the dropouts to the flat part so that the flat part decreases if you get what I mean. The Tech guard is the complete opposite, I think it's too thin for Al and the space between it and the spokes is too big. I still don't know why people run Al guards, go get a BSD Jersey Barrier, best guard ever. And if you're not into the whole plastic thing, go get a DG/S&M/Shadow/.../... they all do chromoly guards.

and all those guards cost money and arent made by me. Cost my £33 for enough aluminium to make 10+ guards. And i can run em knowing i made them which is a fucking good feeling. The profile guard is a cunt because theres nowhere to grip it like i can on the tech guard, although i will try my best to reduce the flat spot, its just sketchy having the tool that close the a chuck thats rotating at 1200rpm. Again, on the tech i was planning on maybe beefing the back up already, but the big gap is due to the spoke holes being closer to the middle creating a larger gap, but theres not way to angle it back with the tools we have. I'm using aluminium because its easy to get, doesnt require ht like good chromoly guards do, and its piss easy to machine haha

Couldn't you cone the backside of the guard a little to give it more depth? Like make it taller from the dropout side to the hub side, and cone the inside of the hub end a bit for that depth.

Downside to closing that gap is if it were to bend, it will hit and possibly pinch/break spokes. I've seen a few FBM guards do it.

I was actually thinking of making a steel cap for my guards, just to slide better. My front alloy hits metal on ledges/rails and sticks super bad, so it would be a little piece to prevent that, rather than trying to machine a whole guard.

I could probably actually just drill small holes and get some bolts in it...hmmm....

Nah, its hard to explain, but because of the thickness of the tool we have i cant machine it to slant back towards the spokes. Ive tried it, didnt work

You should do a DSG!!!

These are sweet, on the Teck hub (like i said before, i have one) and the only thing thatd be better about it if it was a bit larger.

And as for the profile guard, you could probably pop it back in the machine and round that flat part off a bit just to make it a bit smoother. But otherwise, these are both nice!!

They look pretty good! My dad's got a lathe in the garage so I may try this

Yeah, ill beef up the tech one a bit probs. As for the profile, i need a flat surface to grip it in the machine, so it may notvbe that easy :/ and dsg would be good but i think itd be very difficult with the tools we have ona manual lathe..

Get one set up for the Demolition Phantom and I would be down to rock it. Hard part is that one is not press fit, it is threaded.
