If your looking for a nice and simple Brake setup, get an Odyssey Monolever, Odyssey Springfield Caliper and an Odyssey Linear Quick Slic Cable.

Odyssey are pretty much a staple in the Brake world but if you honestly want the best of the best & you plan on keeping them on for a long time you should go with this set up.....

Fly Bikes Manual Brake Lever
Tree SB Power Brake Cable
Fly Bikes Manual Cable Hanger - The one with basically a Spoke Mod stock (It may well come with the Brake, not 100% though)
Fly Bikes Manual U-Brake
Fly Bikes Zapatas Female Brake Pads Clear

One of the best set ups you can get & quite possibly one of the best looking set ups too! The Fly Parts are PRETTY haha laughing

Get an Odyssey Linear Cable.

I have evo2s and there awesome but the demolitions look really nice too. I would get either of those with an odyssey monolever, odyssey cable hanger, and an odyssey race cable.

The quick slic seems really good, there's a bike at my lbs and it has a quick slic and it feels amazing but if the cable doesn't fit perfectly to your bike then your screwed, I bought one and it immediately turned to shit because that knarp thing doesn't work at all so I run a gyro now but if it wasn't for the gyro I would run a odyssey race cable.

Cheapest - spring field
Not as cheap - evo2's great basic brake set up and comes with everything you need.

Go to the odyssey site and figure out what quick slic you need.

Ok if you want a cheap reliable Brake Setup then...

Odyssey Monolever (whatever blade you want)
Odyssey Quick Slick Cable, Get the Long one for a little extra Whip/Bars room.
Odyssey Springfield U-Brake - It comes with BLACK Ghost Pads, so i don't know if they would be O.K for you?
Optional:
Odyssey Ghost Pads Clear

A Shadow Sano U-brake (Drew. B approved) , Odyssey quick slick cable and your choice of an Odyssey Monolever in small or whatever you want.

I had 3 pairs of zapatas clear, they all melted apart same day I put them on. Kool stop supra 2s in clear if you can find some. The zapatas purple are also very nice for chrome rims.

Lots of good recommendations here. I agree that if you want something simple, then go with a linear cable setup. Personally, I prefer a gyro and run a SNAFU mobeus detangler with a snafu dual upper cable and an odyssey gyro lower cable. My actual brakes are Odyssey EVO IIs.

Avoid ghost pads. I have the clear ones and on my black alienation rim they squeak horribly. I hate that sound so I recommend that you avoid them. They brake well though.

Also make sure that you pick a brake lever that is comfortable for you. I like the Odyssey monolever so that's what I run and would recommend.

Hey did you do that mod to fit the snafu cable to the odyssey lever and if so does it work just as good.

I had to grind down the bolt on the lever a bit to get the cable to fit. It works great once it's modded to fit.

If you're looking to save money get a springfield u brake i have one and its great. I run a monolever also. And i think its a slic cable i dont know its red and odyssey.

I dont say stupid things, just no one knows what im talking about.

8/31/2013 9:04 PM

I run a Demolition linear cable with an Éclat Sniper Lever, Fly Manual Brake, with Odyssey clear Ghost Pads. I toe-in my brake pads with a dime (literally) and haven't adjusted my brakes or pads since I installed them last March. They only squeaked for about two days, and the stopping power of this combo has been amazing on my black Demolition Zero rims (still no paint peeling, but I take care of my s#*t and wipe 'em down after I ride). I can do two to three bar/whip combos before I have to untwist.

Fly stuff now....is made cheap. Avoid the levers now. When they first came out and were $70 a lever they were amazing, same with the brakes. I have the manual brakes and they just don't feel as solid.
Odyssey stuff is great. Evo 2 or Springfield. The ghost pads suck though, replaced them with normal pads.
If you run a gyro go with a odyssey m2 lever and do dual lower cables. If just a straight cable I'd say quick slick or regular odyssey linear cable.
If you are one of the few riding front brakes, odyssey slic (not linear) is the best with evo 2 brakes

|

It’s all bmx

9/1/2013 7:11 AM

I run an oddsey M2 lever, Linear slic cable cut to my chosen length, right into a Diatech Fiesta brake (but I use the spring tensioners from my old Fly brake for a cleaner look) with Odyssey Clear brake pads.

Squeals a bunch despite toeing the pads correctly, but locks up one finger like nothing.

Interestingly enough, I'm using a Linear Cable for my Front Brake and I've had no problems with it.
