hello
i've been riding for about 2 years now and from about an year I have something like a constant discomfort (not exactly pain, but similar) in my lower back. The thing is that I don't know what exactly is the reason for that.
When I stop riding for a while that discomfort starts to wear off a bit, but when I get back on the bike it comes back. Or during the winter when I dont ride for long time. It almost wears off, but then there are these days when it comes back out of nowhere. It also appear after most of the physical exercises I do.
Does any of you have the same thing, and do you know what the reasons might be? And how to fix that because it really bothers me. It could be just muscular pain which is not a big problem, but it could be a hernia or smth which would reeeallyy bad + both of my parent have a hernia so there is a biig chance that I have or will have someday.
I don't think it is a hernia because the pain doesn't go down my leg, but who knows.
Do you think taller bars can fix that? Or if not, what could fix it, or at least reduce it? because if it increases, I will have to quit bmx, and I don't want to
Any help will be appreciated.

I have something similar. I feel fine when i wake up, but it gets worse throughout the day and will get really bad if i ride for a while because of landing impacts and leaning over bars. I'm 14 so i'm kinda mad my back is already screwed. I saw a doctor and they said nothing was wrong with it. Right

stretch every morning when you wake up and warm up with stretches before you ride. may not solve it but will help.

I had back pain for probably 3 or 4 weeks because I was fucking around with manuals and the body positioning was weird. Take a break from riding for a bit and it'll go away

Honestly? Who gives a shit. Its the fucking internet. I hate all of you equally.

Honestly, GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR. A GOOD ONE. Ideally one that uses the Gonstead system rather than the traditional "crack it all" setup.

This way they work on the problem areas, and not just general adjustments, which can aid in healing. I went to one for a bit for my back, did WONDERS. helped me heal cartilage a bit.

Stretching & a heating pad can help. See a doctor too but like Dave said, if you need a chiropractor, find a good one. Physical therapy may help too but I've read up on things and some people said in their experiences a chiropractor just made things worse although some said it made them better, so it may or may not work for you.

also hate to thread jack but I'm currently dealing with lower back pain as well, saw a doctor & have been doing stretches and taking 2 different sets of pills for it but once I stopped the first set of pills it started hurting badly again. It's sciatica and it's a bitch, the lower back pain isn't necessarily the problem but the goddamn nerve pain in my back occasionally shooting down my leg is what's killing me. Waiting on MRI results currently but if anyone has any suggestions on what would help I'd appreciate it.

Sometimes going somewhere that can put you in traction (I think that is what they call it) essentially they stretch your spine apart for a while, like half an hour-an hour at a time for a while. Make sure you sit on spots with decent lumbar support, do core muscle exercises too.

I neeeeed that first thing haha. I've been hanging from a pull up bar doing both hangs & core strengthening exercises but I can't hang longer than 2 minutes at a time without my muscles getting tired. Also been hanging from an old swingset out back upside by the legs. It feels like it helps but that traction thing or whatever sounds nice, guy I talked to mentioned a "vest" type thing that goes around your body & arms and basically pulls your upper body up and relieves pressure on your spine. If I get put in physical therapy I hope I end up somewhere with one of those haha

I recently popped some ribs out in my upper back and had to go through a chiropractor and physical therapy. Now that pain has gone away after my treatment, I now have lower back pain that comes and goes after riding and also seems to decrease while I take breaks from riding. I'm only 15 and so frustrated with always being in pain hah. Good luck with ur back ha

I used to have this exact problem, then I bought a top load and taller bars and have never had it since. I don't know if it's the same for you but I went from 8 inch rise bars and a 18mm frontload. To 9 inch bars and a 46mm top load maxed out with spacers.

Indeed. I just found out I herniated one. Got an injection shot yesterday and some pills that actually work. Pain's gone down a lot, tomorrow I'm hopefully gonna start doing some core strengthening exercises and shit so I'll be able to ride again without fucking myself up.
