Anyone knows these bars?? Such an awful products are they sad

Rise, upsweep and backsweep are more important then Saving a few grams of weight. My preference is around 9" rise 12 backsweep and 2 degree upsweep. What are the measurements of your current bars? If you get some badazz bars and thier dramaticly different then what your used to it will make your bike feel goofy at best for a while.

The bars barely came out a few months ago. But kink bars are pretty legit.

My bike has an 8.25" rise, and I'm going to install a front load stem, that's why I need a higher bar, it feels OK now, but maybe a little higher will make my posture better...

Upsweep and backsweep will affect how the bars feel in your hands and how your wrists are aligned. While gripping (standing or sitting) the bars. If that set of bars feel good and try and get taller bars with the same geometry (kink may not make it in those dimensions) or you can expirement.. Which usually costs money.

Your new bars has a 9.5 rise correct? I would wait on getting fl stem. You can always remove spacers or flip your tl stem..
Telling you what to get is impossible because has different preferences. You definitely will have a higher bar setting with the kinks bars

You can flip a topload stem still? A mid-school drop stem wouldn't bother me much. I'd be a little sketched out on flipping a topload with hollow alloys for bolts... Anyways at that point, if you do decide to flip your topload, you can just measure the thickness of the resting plate on your topload stem, and add that to the rise of your bars. A flipped topload stem or no-rise drop stem has well... no rise. Lets say you stem has a 1/2" rise your present bar setup has an overall 8.75" rise. With your new bars and a flipped stem your gaining .75" and thats all

My original bars are 8.25" I bought a fl stem and I'm afraid that when installed, make my bars quite low for my height...
I'm purchasing a new stem cause I don't trust much in my stock gt stem, it doesn't look too strong as its not from the higher end models is just a compe... So I bought a new one...
I want a higher bar now, to compensate that height loss and to get a little more height on its own...

I just threw a GT performer in the trash last week, I split one crank arm, snapped 5 spokes, and nearly stripped out the driver in the rear wheel.. I bought it off craigslist for $80 used and beat the absolute SHIT out of the thing for one solid year. Now GT isn't that trendy of a brand anymore, but I'm saving those parts for a reason. You can trust that stem. It's new york city approved Photo

|

4/9/2015 6:26 PM

Well, it's supposed that the performer is a better model from start, probably all parts are better...
The comps is actually a nice bike, but all the parts are "standard" "stock" parts, maybe I can beat the shit out of it and it will hold on good, but as I'm a big guy, I don't want to stress it that much...
In any case, if I'm not happy with the fl stem, I can still use the stock top load...
BTW, the stock handlebar is hi tensil steel, that was a reason to get a new one...
I may give it a try, I actually don't know nothing as I'm just starting so, the geometry is a blind shot for me...

How long is the top tube on that gt frame? I'm 6'0" 210 and well, those bars are badass there only 8.25"rise and for under $20 Photo

The top tube is 20.5" I know, is not large enough I'm 6.1" or something like that (186cm) but the frame size was all I could get here in my country for the money I had at the moment complete compe for 345 us dollars, I'm not from us, I would have gone a complete different route if that was the case lol

Oh yeah, if that gt performer can took the ammount of abuse I threw at it for a year, that stem of your will be just fine. Usually in BMX "better" doesn't mean better. Better means less material, or a different alloy. That topload stem is 6061 The one on my gt performer was "better" its hollow. If anything replace the bolts with 12.1's at fastenal

I thought there was no love for gt here :D

Well redline doesn't have that much popularity here either and that is a brand new $1500+ redline device G7 21.25 custom. Those Kink pillar cranks that everyone it shitting all over them selves about.. Won't last. There good cranks but not the best. The 2-piece design is flawwed. I bought redline because I trust redline. Gt may not be the coolest, But I promise you, I'll throw that GT stem of mine on my bike if I have too. I still trust thier parts. See that Kink emblem... Well, it's just a sticker. I have no love for trendy. Photo

Great smile

I guess its just not a trendy brand...

Will see if I can get another deal, that Chicago looks good but is just 8.25

I'm not sure but I think the gt comp has a chromoly seat tube and down tube. It is a sub-par frame or a "beginner/intermediate" level frame which or more politically correct then saying it's a complete hunk of shit.

I nicknamed my gt performer "the turd" I also call my new redline, my old redline, my other old old redline.., all of which were over $1000 bikes. Pieces of crap. GT, just like redline was established in 1974, examples like mongoose and SE bike who were also established in 1974 just became to widly popular for thier own good.

Then crap like sticker shopping happens fitbikeco is also S&M, mission is also Kink, and animal is also FBM. Redline is Owned and operated by SBS or seattle bike supply. But redline is shit and wethepeople is THE SHIT (also seattle bike supply) It's a sticker dude... 4130 is 4130 a standardized, regulated grade of materials by an orginization outside of the bike world. There are definite differences between post and pre weld heat treating. Single, double, and internally gussets. Single, double, and triple butting. Etc... Stickers are cheap, but those sticker can make a cheap bike look expensive or an expensive bike look cheap. Research how the frame is made. If it is not clearly stated how the frame is made. I wouldn't trust it. The same goes for aftermarket parts.

Your 6'1" if you can get your hands on a frame with a 21"-22" toptube Your knees will love you long time. I ALWAYS bashed my knees against my stem on my 20.5" ALWAYS. They were purple all the time

|

4/10/2015 2:43 AM

Yes the comps has top tube and down tube chromoly, like I said, didn't have much options on my budget, AND didn't know much about that stuffs, I'm just learning now...
Its kind of complicated to get a frame here, there is no bike shops that can carry a 21" or 22" TT frame, just the frame, there is no brands like wtp fit fbm s&m nothing... There is NO grips... I have to buy them in USA and pay super shipping to bring them here lol

Don't get the wrong idea, I'm not knocking your bike or budget... First and foremost a bike to ride is the most important step. I usually have two bikes... The one i ride and the one I'm building, now that you have a bike you can slowly piece together a serious machine based of the one your riding now.

http://www.gtbicycles.com.uy/?cnt=bike&cod=132148MATBCK

That honestly doesn't look all that bad. It's kind of affordable...kind of. Good bikes are expensive, save your money. This last bike I built took me 11 months, I'm broke. In the mean time I was riding around a rusty gt performer I bought for $80 on craigslist. A bike is A bike is a bike is a bike.
