Dumb kid.
A recent post was speaking about bar geometry, read it.

Big bars kick ass if you're a taller guy.

I'm 6 feet and ride an S&M ATF with 21" top tube. Yesterday I put S&M Credence XL (9.25") bars on and rode dirt jumps. Holy shit do they feel good. It is amazing what a few mm higher rise will do. More control, easier to get the front end up, and more stable.

Prior to that I had 9" bars and they were decent, but I'd come home with my neck a little whacked from being too hunched over. I'm ordering 9.5" Tree Motos right now for my S&M Black Magic (21.25" top tube and longer back end) -- can't wait to see how they run.

Old thread.

This comes up occasionally, and it's personal preference. I had 9" bars and hated them. I'm now using 8.85" terrible1 bars with a frontload, and can't see myself ever going higher. I'm also 6'.
Tall bars make a bike less stable.

I should have said taller and wider. When I put the 30" wide and taller bars on it felt great from the first lap through the trails.

Taller and wider bars slow down the movements made by the rider which makes the bike feel more stable and in control, while at the same time giving the rider more leverage to throw the bike around.

Ya, i kept my perfect 10's for that reason. Threw em on my dirt jumper and it feels better to me in the air.

I'm 5.8 and my bike came with stock DB bars with an 8.5 rise, which while okay I did find myself a little hunched and turning somewhat snappy. I upgraded to S&M Hoder 9.5 and they're much better for comfort and control.

The correct width for the rider make the bike more stable. Bars that are too wide (as was the fashion a few years back) are less stable. I've cut every single pair of bars I've ever owned. I never measure them, I just put the grips where they feel comfortable, chop one side, then measure it against the other. It's the same principle as push ups, if your hands are too far apart, it's harder to push yourself up and balance your weight between your hands.

I roared with laughter at your username. Shared it with a friend in the pub who swiftly reminded me that as I've two daughters that might be something I hear one day...

My laughter quickly died.

LOL wink
