Lean back and put your ass over your back wheel , be prepared to catch yourself with your feet or slam your tailbone into concrete , once you get the feeling your going to fall back and die consistently your close to the balance point

the farther you lean back the less you have to pull up your wheel, so find your confortable balance point and you should be good

Money can't buy you happiness but money can buy you a bike and that's pretty much the same thing.

Bend your knees and hold yourself up as low as possible. Lol. Manuals are 95% leg work.

Easy to learn, impossible to master laughing

Learning manuals were weird , but I'd tell you if you start getting the balance aim to have your ass above your back wheel .

You have the most control here , and can adjust . If you want a responsive manual stay over your back wheel , it's easy to control but harder to stay balanced , but it's how I hop out of and into grinds so I can stay in control and not my wrestle my bike .

If you lean over your back wheel , you start to cruise with the manual and it's more relaxed but it's good for going faster and more stable , but if you can't hold a manual you will not get them quick like this unless you go faster and can hump your bike and pump your legs well , and can loop out and get out of it .

That's me above my wheel , where I have most control . It's responsive and I can adjust to turn , loop out , or keep my front end up.

That's with my ass over the bike , and this is where I can cruise in the manual , and pump to stay in it . This is what I use when bombing hills and manualling.

Sounds like your ass is too low, try to keep your knees bent like in Brayden's second picture.

Also, I am 99% sure you run brakes, do you have a finger on the lever in case you loop out? That way you can feather the brakes (gently tap them as needed to assist with keeping the balance point).
