The best explanation I've heard so far is something like "i like em" or "they feel good" I run 8.25" bars cut and a short ass back end, help me understand what I'm missing here. Please state your height so it'll be easy to disregard your post accordingly. Thanks !

I run 8 inch bars and I'm 5'9 I used to ride like 7.5 back in the day

|

2/26/2012 1:45 PM

My bars are 8.1" and I had a frontload. Then I got a Sunday Freeze TL stem and I like it more. They were 28" wide but I cut them down to 25.5". I like tall-ish, narrow bars.

I'm 5'11".

Wide bars give you more control so your bike doesn't feel twitchy
Taller bars are easier on your back (so you aren't hunched over), and of course tall people like them

I'm 5' 7" with 8x27 bars, but i also used to ride 8x28 bars before and liked them as well

I see these kids snapping up perfect tens lately like crazy, most of em are well under 6' tall and don't pay any attention the geometry of whatever frame they are riding, I'm thinking somebody should explain basic bike set-up to em. Everything is relative ya know. I have been considering moving to a 8.5" bar but only because I wanna go back to a front load stem

whats the difference between front load with bigger bars and topload with smaller bars? dont they feel the same?

|

Yep. I've been running front loads since the quilled redneck days so my preference towards front loads runs deep, its purely asthetic though lol. I'm willing to admit that.

i used to have 7.75 stock bars
read on these forums when i was beginner that bigger was better
bought 8.25x29 bars
instantly felt better
cut them down to 27 cause i thought they would help with barspins
realised it did nothing
bought a toploader
instantly felt better

i'm not that tall (5'9") but every time my bars go higher i feel less strain on my back
i definately think that bigger bars are better

|

2/26/2012 4:05 PM

8.5 high because anything smaller my front end dips
26 wide because i usually put my hands right next to the bend and theres no need for the extra inch on each side

It feels way more natural to run wide bars, especially since my shoulders are a bit on the wider side.
Even with 28.75's I still hold on to the very edge of my grips.

I am 5'8 and have ran a ton of bars
In the last year:
Redline Device (7.5H, 26W)
Animal Piff 2.0 (7.26H, 25.5W)
MacNeil XLT's (8.25H, 28.75W), I want to go back to these
Kink Lynx (8.25H, 28.5W)

i went from sky highs to eastern niners to perfect 10's. honestly, the perfect tens are so awesome i definitely believe they've made me better. i also flipped my fit dld stem so that adds another inch or so. i can manual much better and my hops have improved a bit. i've also been working on air-outs and the perfect 10's are definitely great for them!

I have nothing against pegs at all, I don’t think you’re dumb if you ride pegs, I don’t care about your pegs, they are just pegs! What I do hate is the fact that every person in BMX hops on this bandwagon of three pegs, and beanies, and weed, and hop-over grinds… It’s just sad that the pros who influence kids are more worried about looking cool than the kids themselves! im like 5 foot 10 and i have a topload stem, uncut steerer tube and 8.5x28 bars. just feels easier on my back and easier to pull up. i used to hate them when i ran 8 inch bars, i could barely bunnyhop on 8.5 bars

trails are not skateparks, they exist solely from the work and dedication of local riders. so next time you start complaining about not having local trails to ride, you only need look at yourself.

I'm 5'9"

i ride odyssey lumber jacks uncut, with a top load stem and some spacers my frame is 20.5, honestly doesn't feel that good at all seems like i need a little bit higher bars, nothing like them S&m perfect ten bars, rode a kids bike that had them felt pretty lame for the most part and made it impossible to hop high only thing that felt good was manuals

|

2/26/2012 4:51 PM

I'm 5'9" I ride 8.5x29's with a topload. I'd rather have some 8.25s but whatever.
