Ive looked in my area for cheap bikes i can buy 2nd hand cheaper i can negotiate on. Please let me know if these bikes are good? Buying a new one i would prefer but i would also love to buy 2nd hand and save money or use the money towards swapping new parts. I live in ottawa so if anyone knows any good spots thatd be great

That's a great way to possibly waste money. A lot of the guys on here have experience with the brands you are asking about.

I also suggest the review section and google reviews to see the good and bad about the bikes you are looking at.

Aim for:
Double wall rims
Sealed bearings
CHROMOLY-AS MUCH AS YOU CAN (Frame forks, bars and cranks, look for full chromoly if you can)

Outside of that, aim for what you like.

It's not the best but a decent start.
Both those bikes you listed have Hi-ten steel frames, single wall rims, and crappy chains. They would last you a month or two at best.

Yes, In a few months even with light street riding you'll wind up left with a hi-tensile frame and a bunch of destroyed parts. Single wall rims get tweaked fast. I usually can't even pedal one of those things without popping links on the chain. Even with that DK i linked, you may wind up having to replace the chain.

Your probably going to have to look more near the $400 pricepoint for a solid chromoly frame, fork and bars. Your looking for decent components like doublewall rims with sealed front and back hubs. A kmc 710 chain would be a good thing to buy with the new bike as well.

If your spending around $300 on a bike with unsealed single wall rims, and a crap chain. In a few months you'll probably have to dump another $100-$200 into your new bike just to keep riding it. Which kinda sucks. Even the best brands make cheap bikes.

Yeah thats what it means when the description says 100% 4130... Did you read the description? I wouldn't buy anything unless I knew what I was buying. I most definitly wouldn't buy something just because some dude said to buy it on the interwebz.

Didnt have time to read it yet lol. I dont know which parts are good and bad, im still new and learning lol

Shovelhead, the only major difference in parts is the frame. Shovelhead is full chromoloy whereas the warlock has a chromoloy downtube only.

There is a difference in geometry, which is more of a preference issue.

Cool, i was planning to get the shovelhead. Im not that tall, im 5'7

|

4/20/2015 3:22 PM

I'm not an expert, in fact i'm a serious noob, but the SubRosa Letum is full chromoly and is just 499, and it even come with hub guards tongue

You probably will explode some things on that, but they will hold on quite good
