Well went to go 180 my chain slipped off the sprocket cause my dumbass self forgot to retension the chain after switching my tires can't even believe I didn't notice the slack in my chain even though it didn't look loose but yeah it slipped I bailed and messed up my knee bad, I tore a ligment in my leg can't remember which one cause I was high on mess when the doctor told me, don't know why my knee hurts bad if it was a ligment, but yeah, silver lining at least it's just before winter is starting so should be back on the bike by spring time, so I'll spend my time on here and building my bike.

That sucks, hope it heals well and you don't end up with shitty knees!

Hope it goes better for you than it did for me. About the same thing happened to me a couple years back and my knee has never been the same since.

Yeah hope I can get back on the bike, doctor tried telling me that wanting that wasn't smart, and I explained to him how bmx is kind of my escape from reality it's really the only time where it's just me and my bike and everything else doesn't matter at that moment if that makes sense, his stupid answer was "you should find a different escape" but you know I will get on the bike again just hope my knee heals good enough to keep riding

Something to be said for slamming your wheel!

I slam my wheel, run female hubs front and back and run an odyssey keychain. The combination makes for a simple removal and little to no chance of your chain slipping off.

I can remove only my chain or only my wheel if I so choose.

If I remove both female bolts I can just slide my wheel down out of the dropouts or if just cleaning my drivetrain and chain, 1 allen key can remove the chain.

So you have something to look forward to.

Ligaments can heal on their own, just make sure and completely immobilize the area so it can reattach. Take it slow and steady and you should be able to get back on.

I had knee surgery on my left side as you may know and that took forever to heal, im not gonna lie... I still have a lot of pain and discomfort almost 2 years later. My right foot/ankle (most recent injury) had a ruptured ligament and fractures. I am riding with a TIGHT ankle brace, about 6 weeks later. It hurts a lot to pedal but the pain is mostly my muscles and other ligaments stretching and waking up. Cant do any tricks or drops yet but I am confident it will heal. You being younger helps a LOT! Physical therapy helps get you on track to help yourself, if you have access to it.

Dont let depression get the best of you, if you have had any serious injuries before, you will know how depression can take control of your life pretty quickly. Mobility is an important thing but you have to keep yourself focused and dont let depression win.

Take the time you will be spending healing and somewhat dormant, to research things that interest you and become knowledgeable about something you never knew about!

Most importantly take the healing process seriously and dont get back on the bike too early! It will only prolong your absence from what you really want to be doing...tricks.

I will say, winter time (besides slippery conditions) is THE best time to be hurt considering its way less comfortable/ and or possible to ride outside.

On the other hand, I look forward to seeing you around the forums more often! smile

Ugh.... sorry to hear, man! Hope you heal quick & are ready for spring.

|

10/17/2017 5:30 AM

yeah..heal up dude! And definitely don't rush getting back on! A few extra weeks off now will lead to a lifetime of being able to ride again! It was torture after my heart attack to have to wait..and even now I have to watch my heart rate when i do ride. It gets better day by day, so it is not a lost cause!

I pulled all of the muscles in my right leg playing hockey 2 years ago, and still can not play...after 35+ years of playing at least twice a week. THAT sux...but I can feel it getting stronger every day as well. Will hopefully be back fully skating in January...

the most important thing you can do now, is giving yourself time to heal and if youre doing therapy do everything your therapist tells you so you can heal up faster.

First off most people don't understand why other people do action sports. From an outside perspective it looks like we dont care about our bodies and just huck our meat and hope for the best. But like you said BMX is a great escape from reality. It one of the few things I can do where I am so focused and in the moment I cant think about anything else.

Secondly it sounds like an ACL tear or MCL tear, which is really common for people to have. Growing up playing competitive soccer I have seen so many of my buddies tear ACL/MCL. If it is torn you will most likely have to have surgery to get it fixed, which is good, and the surgery is really basic for surgeons. Heal time on an ACL is around 6-10 months depending on how bad the tear is and how hard you work to rehab yourself with out over working it.

Bright side, its almost winter. Heal up. Do physical therapy and you will be back on next summer!

Your doctor's a dipshit. I had a doctor tell me sort of the same thing before that I should give it up cause of the damage bmx does to the body. I almost told her to fuck off. Saw a specialist and he didn't say any of that. I stand by the statement "if your doctor tells you to quit your sport, find a better doctor" (unless of course you physically cannot ride or be fixed haha)

You need to find out which ligament it is. some ligaments can heal overtime, but others like the ACL will require surgery. Trust me when I say riding without getting your ACL fixed will hurt like a fucking bitch when you inevitably blow it out again. I know from experience. Like bquick222 said above, if it is the ACL, it's a 6 month minimum to fully heal. Luckily, just pedaling is excellent for building the muscle back up so after about a month or so (if you get the okay to do so like I did) you can start just cruising and pedaling again, but no tricks. I started trying little stuff again after about 2-3 months and looking back that was idiotic cause I easily could've torn it again. That was 8 years ago, so you'll be fine. Just do as physical therapy says and you'll be back at it in no time. Plus it's Winter, so around Spring when it's warming up again you'll be shred-ready

Ride till you die

I hate when injuries happen this way. One time my compression cap wasn't working right (probably because of the rusted bolt) and it caused my fork to swing in the other direction while I was pedaling at full speed on a big sprocket. I slid across the sidewalk and had streaks of skin missing on my back and left arm. It hurt like a bitch taking a shower.

|

10/26/2017 8:08 PM

Any updates on the injury?

Ride till you die

Take their advice on how long to wait to start physical therapy, when they give you the go, kick it's ass! I was lucky and pulled my MCL about 3 months ago and didn't need surgery. Never went to get it looked at even. I just waited about a week or so then started PT very slowly and with no weight, built it up for several weeks and then added weights slowly. Did this for almost 2 months before riding. I probably should have waited longer but had to ride for my 40th bday.
