what do you guys run and why
ride or die
I'm running steel but would like to try the shadows with slicker sleeves
I'm a punk bmxer, I can't do it well so I do it loud.
I used to be a hardcore metal peg rider. I used to ride 2 pegs years ago & switched to four about 6 years ago. When i switched i went with plastics & i must say it opens up a whole new world of griding. Things you'd have to wax the shit out of or possibly even have to leave alone with metal pegs are good to go with plastics! Im getting Butchers for my new bike & i will be going with the longer 4.5" versions but thats another thread haha.
Depends. I prefer plastic for ledges and metal for rails/parks.
I'm on the vital legit list!
metal. plastic wears out fast and is really sticky on metal

I'm not very good, but don't really care. Haha. It's all for fun! I do really want to try grinding tho. I've been thinking of trying out the butcher pegs. They been around awhile, and animal has a good reputation. That said, cult just dropped their butter pegs, which I think would be pretty badass. And you also get 2 sleeves with each peg. I have heard that plastics are faster, not for beginners.
Basically, do you think plastics are too sketchy to start out with?
And how does the aluminum (butcher) peg hold up to abuse? ( sloppy engagement, slamming down on the ledge/rail etc)
I did read somewhere, a pro said he rides with both in his napsac. So if he comes across a park that craps on steel, he throws on plastics.
OP. if you're serious about grinds, I've read enuf to recommend-- if you're into steel pegs-- the animal Lino g's.

What pegs did you use? My plegs never stuck on metal, but plastic does wear out faster.

I'm gonna ask for an MDS either this Christmas or my birthday next year. Then, I want to run 4 Stolen Silencer pegs. Good setup but I feel kinda weight-weenie on the MDS.

They are pretty fast on certain things. I looped out a few times on a metal park bench i was practicing on. You will get used to it pretty quickly though, honestly don't be to cautious about it though, you'll take so long to dial them in, however dont go hell for leather balls out or you might fuck yourself up haha. They are awesome for things like concrete ledges & un waxed rails. As mentioned if you're riding concrete or rough ledges all the time the sleeves do wear out quick. With my Plegs i think ive had 3 sets of sleeves in about 2 years, not too bad i think. I mean over the last few years i have had to slow down abit because of injury but i would most definitely recommend!
I ride plastic pegs but i'm scared to grind anything concrete because I feel like I'll tear them to shreds. Am I misguided?

Cheers Topsey. Thanks for the info. I'm getting too old for injuries, hope yours are only minor. I think I'm gonna try some out. I imagine they cause a little less damage too. I'm also getting to old to deal with vandalizing charges. Lol

I have complex regional pain syndrome, the nerves in my upper right hand side of my body are wrecked. Im getting on with it though taking Morphine & a few other tablets for it & i got diagnosed with type one diabetes a couple of weeks back so im off the bike for quite some time atm. Sucks but at least i have time & money to spend on more bike parts :D
How old are you btw if you dont mind me asking? Me & Joe (noendinsight666) are 25 & 27 and we kinda consider ourselves the older guys on here haha.
I'm running united 34 slim pegs does any know if they plastic sleeves for them or no of any that wood fit on them
ride or die
Topsey, I hope you get to ride again soon. Just keep trying to stay positive, no need to dwell on things we can't change.
I'm 33. From 13 to 28 i didnt ride, wish I had tho. Life does not slow down! Sometimes I feel like I've lost my mind still trying to continue on, but I work with a guy whos 36/37, and he still does dirt jumps on his mtb. And he even said he was thinking about a bmx cuz its lighter and easier to throw around. He wrecks every now and then, but is always smiling and has a good attitude about life. As much as I question riding, it makes me happy, so there's no need for me to feel weird. And what's odd is bmx might actually keep me healthy, like a wanna eat well, cut out smoking, cut back drinking etc. all so I can keep riding in my 40's and 50's! Fingers crossed.

Same. but sleeves are cheap and don't need waxing so it's not that bad. Plastic has that no hassle thing going on for it.
Either you run metal and only have wax to replace.
Or you run plastic, where you never wax and have sleeves to replace once in a while.
I'm glad the options are there. Riders buy what they prefer and we're all happy at the end of the day.

Someone posted a pic in the bikecheck section of an old schwinn, (I think), and I started to picture some 50 yo dude popping flat whips and hang nothing's and such. I laughed so hard, but really, if someone were to be pulling off tricks on it, they would be legendary! It makes me think of how outdated my rides will be in the future. Like "whoa pops! Nobody uses chromoly anymore. Get with the times you old fart! It's all about plastic frames!!!" hahaha. As far as the diabetes goes,I have a friend who's a gym rat, hes 6'3" and 235lbs. His only complaint is the price of insulin. Hope that helps a bit. Just keep on keeping on!
