what is the difference between spline drive and bolt drive?

spine has no bolt to go into the sprocket and bolt drive has a bolt to connect to the crank arm. I have never tried spine drive cranks but i guess they are the same just without a bolt. lol

Spline drive has a 48 splined insert on the sprocket which slides onto the spindle of 48spline cranks.

Bolt drive means the sprocket is held to the crank arm by a bolt

Nooo. Spline drive is a type of sprocket that goes onto 48s cranks without a bolt. Spline drive cranks are 48s cranks that dont have sprocket bosses.
youre thinking of odyssey socket drive which is basically the same idea but with a hexagon instead of splines.
