so I have a 2013 free agent lumen, that I have been slowly upgrading over the last 6 months. so far I have replaced the crank with the demolition rig24, sprocket with the fit key guard, forks with animal barrett's (bent the original free agent forks), and replaced the headset with odyssey. now I keep getting told by the guys I ride with that I should replace the frame, but I think I should start with the wheels cause the front is an unsealed hub to single wall rim, and the rear is unsealed cassette to double wall...both rims are made by weinmann. what do you guys thing I should replace first?

Whatever blows up first or shows signs of doing so, front wheels are easy to find cheap and they don't die as easy as you'd think if you aren't going sorta big.

Everything stock is going to need replaced at some point, the question is when.

The guys at your park are idiots. Just ride it until it breaks.

that's what ive kinda been thinking. I think ill keep the rear rim and just get a new hub cause the stock one is missing a ball bearing.

keep the frame till it brakes, or is about to, frames are expensive.

I think the next thing I would upgrade would be the tires if they are still stock.

Tires are definitely a good bang for your buck upgrade.

Replacing the wheels is also a good choice for the reasons you stated.

I agree with the ride it until it brakes philosophy to some extent but there's nothing wrong with upgrading parts if you have the money and it makes you happy. Just be smart about it and don't think that changing parts is going to instantly make you a better rider.

We can legally gamble here, but there isn't a lottery. That's the tradeoff.

Hey, thanks for the help guys.

@transition_chris. I already upgraded the tires to some Animal GLH's....and I know upgrading parts wont make me a better rider. I rode all thru middle/high school, and stopped when I joined the military....9 years later I'm picking a bike back up so I know everything takes time.

@biggbuggy, I've been to Fallon a couple times. always did like road tripping to Reno to gamble all day. haha

@dkTechEthan, If you're ever in VA beach / Norfolk, hit me up and we can ride bro.

This.

Learn some rad moves and show those guys up. I bet they are gonna tell you to buy the trendiest stuff too.

Just replace things as you need to, when the wheels go, replace em. When the frame cracks, replace it.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Replace wheels first. Frames aren't gonna break unless you are doing something big but cheap wheels are such a pain in the ass.

I am always a fan of new parts. But unless what you're riding is failing you, it's fine.

I used to break everything so replacing stuff happened pretty often for me. I eventually got a new frame back when my stolen's bb and headtube bearings were ruined for the 5000th time. haha

I try not to replace stuff unless i'm sure it's gonna help. Right now you can buy a Sunday frame for like 170.. It's a good deal and you'll never have to replace that for a while.

Holy crap good answer.

Especially the last sentence. I swear 75% of kids think new parts will. (Especially coasters)
