so i bought a sunday scout 2021 complete about 5 months ago, and it comes with single wall rims. i was reading that the rims that the bike comes with are garbage, so i was thinking of getting some double wall rims. i was looking at the odyssey lighthouse rims. if i got these rims, i would have to disassemble the wheel, but would i have to buy new spokes and nipples? or would i just disassemble the wheel and put it back together with the new rims? the rims the sunday scout comes with are the “ P-7X aluminum, 20", 20H” (pretty bad rims) also, the lighthouse rims would fit with these spokes and the hub, right? the hub is the “Sunday 36H, sealed, 14mm axle w/ 9T Driver”. thanks guys, i’m still getting used to the whole bmx game. (edit: sunday must have made a mistake on their website. the P-7X aluminum, 20"are actually 36H)

i counted the spokes too, and there was definitely not 20. so there is 36H in the P-7X aluminum, 20" rims. so would the spokes work to be reused with the odyssey litehouse rim?

i have a question tho. what is cross pattern?

From the sound of it, you probably shouldn’t attempt to build a wheel just yet. I’ve re used spokes for my own wheels plenty of times. But you’re definitely better off getting new spokes and getting the right length. It would probably be better to just buy a pair of rims, drop the whole lot at a local shop and ask them to get the right length spokes and build them for you.

The litehouse rims are fairly lightweight and intended more for a front wheel. They might be fine for a while, but I’d suggest something a bit stronger.

The other option is to save your money, and ride em til they break, then buy a new wheel/s

watch some wheel building videos on youtube.

I'd keep riding what you have and save money until you need to replace the rims / wheels you have.

Sometimes you can simply tape the new rim to the old wheel and transfer each spoke at a time but you need to make sure the spoke lengths are correct.

It's hard to go wrong with Odyssey, definitely a flex move. Many people consider Hazard Lites to be the best hoop available but it's subjective. I've had old Hazards that never trued right, but had newer ones that rarely ever needed the spokes tightened.

Then I've had stock Stranger wheels that were great and withstood a lot of abuse for having a thinner profile, but had a Cinema wheel that dented super easy despite being a more robust design. But would I recommend Stranger over Cinema? Probably not.

If you're shopping whole wheels, it's more important to look for the hub you want than the rim, imo. I don't even know what my rims are, but they were laced to Profile Elites so I didn't question it.

true. but the thing is my hub is still fairly new. it’s only about 6 months old from my complete bike. it also hasn’t taken any crazy amounts of damage. so i’m just looking for rims right now. i’ve heard the hazardlites are amazing.

Sunday doesn't put garbage on their bikes. it says single wall, yeah it might be single wall but it will ride like a dream! they won't last forever, tru them once or twice and then that'll be it.

Sunday totally puts garbage on their entry level stuff , just because the sound wave is fully loaded doesn’t mean the rest of their line up is , the same can be said for every company doing completes , just look at the broc raiford complete , doesn’t even have a full chromoly frame or chromoly handlebars , total downgrade from his volume signature bike that was fully chromoly everything , I had one it was sick and I got it for only 200 bucks more than his Sunday

Merritt battles if you want something indestructible or Merritt sieges if you want something strong and lightweight
