what are your thoughts on a straight cable, im thinking of going from gyro to straight cable for more braking power and easier to dial in for me

Not really much to say about them though... They're simpler, have a much firmer feel than gyro, more braking power, and personally I think they look better.
Of course if you do a lot of bar spins, whips or footjam whips, I'd keep the gyro so you don't have to unwind it all the time.

I had run different brake setups and I don't feel more braking power with my straight cable (odyssey) than with my gyro (cheap salt complete).
The brake pads are way more important, black pads are good for slowing down, but not for tricks, to do brake tricks clear pads are indispensable.
The more efficient i had rode were the flybikes manual clear pads.
i have the clear fly pads and to me they lasted about 2 weeks but now i run old ghost clear pads, but with a straight cable i feel you can limit the power to the brakes more compared to a gyro, well mine anyway my cables were a tad to short but i have to wait a few months before i could get new ones so i just out on my old straight cable

This. Although I have dialed my gyro in to feel the same as a straight cable.
Also get a linear cable (pretty much all are nowadays) as they brake better when twisted than cheap regular ones. Less binding.
The other option is learn opposite bars and or whips to unwind it while riding.

A gyro can have superior braking power if you use a dual cable setup, always lube your cables with a good liquid grease and when dialling in the pads you can do each arm individually so if your rim is less than perfectly straight you can get the best braking power possible.
Honestly learning how to make a gyro work as efficiently as possible is a very rewarding and simple thing to learn, keep going at it you will get it right soon enough, if i remember danscomp have something on their site ans an instructable to help you get started.
