okay so whats the deal with tripod seats? are they lighter then pivotals? stronger? im not really following where their better than pivotals here....

Lighter, stiffer, weaker, less comfortable and less options.
Tried tripod but switched back to pivotal because nothin comes close to the comfort of Tree seats.
The posts are VERY poorly designed and I've seen tons snapped.

Tripods look better , simple , lighter. Unless you doing whips are just land hard on your seat it should be fine. They're almost a trend.

I don't think I've ever seen a Tripod seat that looks better than your average Pivotal seat.

The Markit and new mutiny ones are the only ones I think look nice. I have the Markit actually. I think it looks better than all the other with the weird shape. It looks more like a pivotal. And how many seat positions do there need to be? The two positions are actually nice. One is suitable for parkrats and the other position is in that nice equilibrium between tilted and horizontal.
Main reason I got a tripod was because I liked the way the Markit seat looked. Everything else looks wierd, not like a seat.

I will say if Tree drops a Tripod seat identical to their Slim Pivotal and a 200mm or longer Tripod post without the stress concentrator, I'd probably switch back to Tripod just since it looks a bit cleaner underneath.

I like tripods more but honestly it's a seat and I really couldn't care . If it's strong and decently comfy and not ugly , I'll ride it.

Everything is fine with pivotal seats, we can set the angle exactly how we like.
But the tripod is a completely retard concept, only two positions avaiable, and for what benefits ? Only to don't have a hole on the top of the seat !?

as far as the strength goes, its a fucking seat.
you have to be a terrible rider to snap a seat post... i never even heard of such a thing.

1) find a product that is slightly different from the norm (often not an original idea)

Stiffer and lighter. Really want to make the switch but just dont like any of the seats. Not worth dropping a few oz by riding a seat i dont like. But if you're in the market for a seat and post and like a specific tripod, i would definitely go for it!

I prefer having a lot of different angles to dial in where I want my seat. I hardly ever sit on my seat but when I do I'd like to not feel like I'm about to lose my anal virginity or sit on it completelt flat, that shit's so unfomfortable. Pivotal seats are so adjustable, it's nice.
As for breaking them, I've snapped a seat before doing a no footed can can, missing the pedal and landing my ass right to the seat breaking it. I'd be willing to bet the force of that would have broken a tripod post just looking at them. Not to mention I do dickfooted whips and because of this I sometimes kick the shit out of my seat when getting over frame, moving the seat post in the seat tube.

Tree seats or die. I won't get any other seat than a tree. They look and feel better. Now if they made tripods, i'd get one.
