Last Sunday when driving home from a show, drunk driver falls asleep behind the wheel and hit me from behind doing about 100-120mph(from what was estimated in the report). Car is totaled, Im alive but my body is f**ked!. I was told if I wasnt moving at about 50 mph already and had I not been wearing a seatbelt I would probably be dead from how hard the impact was. Cant stand properly, walking is difficult, cant lift my head without having to do it with my hands first, I have loss of feeling throughout my arms, hands and legs...I wake up every day feeling nauseous, headaches and Im becoming severely depressed. I keep hearing its only the beginning, things will change..its takes time.. but how long??? Doctor solutions are to put me on pain pills until my body somewhat heals before whatever they have for physical therapy lined up. Im not into taking narcotics even if they are prescribe, I dont like the feeling of being f**ked up.

Perhaps Im posting because I check here daily. I dont regularly posts things about myself like this online...Im just down. Because an idiot coudnt handle his liquor and followed through with stupid decision it leaves me to suffer.

Wish I could just ride, forget about things and none of that is possible..I ride everyday and from this I wont be able to for a couple months...not happy at all.

I hear that from everyone, doctors, family, friends... Money is nice and all but If I cant ride and do what I love, it means nothing. Id rather be poor and be able to ride every day of my like rather then have money and be without it. It may sound dumb to some but riding is a very big part of my life. While I do other things the only time my mind is clear is when Im actually on my bike.

i'm exactly the same way. I understand exactly what you're saying. But that prick needs to compensate you in some way. You could then buy bike stuff with the money. It;s not riding but new stuff is about as close as you're gonna get so why not? It;s not like you're being a succubus. He potentially caused you ailments you may have to deal with the rest of your life, the least he can do is send you a nice chunk of fucking money

I get what you're saying but when you think about it it would be nicer to have a shitload of cash and not be able to ride than no cash and not be able to ride smile but anyway best of luck with your recovery

You have this guy by the throat. Sue him. Sue his family. Sue his fucking kids. Sue the bar he was at. I'm all about partying and whatever, but the second it fucks up someone else's life or freedom, there's a price to be paid. Get well soon dude. Watch some anthem II. That helped me through a bad place.

It's good that you don't wanna take pain meds dude. They work for a bit, but then, when they wear off, you feel more pain than you would have had you just dealt with it in the first place. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you, and hope you recover quickly. I am against almost all prescribed medicine because the pharmaceutical companies are a business, and out for profit. What makes a company like that profitable? Selling more meds. Dr.s also get kickbacks for prescribing the newer meds, kinda like a drug dealer. Corporate America is far more sinister than they want us to believe.

Honestly, sue him, unless you already have enough money to set you for life. haha do what you can to prepare yourself for when you can ride again! Fight thru the pain, if it gets too bad, remember, it doesnt last forever. You will be on the bike again soon hopefully! Relax and do what the doctor says to do, i mean except for the meds. That probably the best decision if you dont wanna do that. You got it man!! Just think about riding, think about the tricks you want to learn, visualize things. Half of riding is being mentally ready to do the trick. Just think about how the trick would feel to do and such. Do research on the computer about how to help you get better and riding and stuff! Best of all, vital is here, so you can do what you can to stay in BMX as best you can!

Did the fucker die? That's fast to hit someone and make it out? Sounds like a harsh impact

That sucks man, glad you are functioning, if even roughly.

Something to take however you choose:

Take a look at Stephen Murray. He was doing double flips, 360 turndown flips and dominating Dirt contests, and then a horribly timed pedal slip in the middle of a double flip took him out. Paralyzed from the neck down. He died several times on the way to and in the hospital.

Now look at the fact that he was told he would never move anything below his neck again. He proved the doctors wrong. He moved his arms not too long ago. His goal is to walk again, and be the second person EVER to recover to that degree from such an injury.

Now your situation is awful, but look at the bright side of it, you are alive, still kicking. You are still functioning.

My whole point is to look at the bright side of every situation. Sure, you aren't able to ride right now, and yes, that sucks. But try other things, edit videos, learn to use photoshop or other programs, watch videos, when you can, dial in your bike, the list goes on. Yea, it sucks right now, BUT there is always a silver lining, and you are living it right now.

You can use your experience to talk to people and explain the perils of drinking and driving with your experience of the car accident. Usually there aren't survivors from that side of it.

Be thankful man. Seriously. You are super lucky and there is a reason you are still kicking.

To those saying sue the guy, he probably doesn't have much money. You can't squeeze a nickel and get a fifty out of it. Most often the drunk driver has little to no money, and in many cases no insurance, so don't expect to be financially set for life out of it.
