Look for sealed bearings. Also local craigslist may be useful. Many top of the line bikes get sold at discount prices. Look around for other options before you decide

The dugan looks dope & it comes with the revenge wheels
do you like the color scheme?

For just a few more $ i think the Begin 1 is better. biggest difference would be the 4 pc bars on the Begin and slightly longer frame and steeper head angle

As much Chromoly as you can get
Double wall rims
sealed bearings

Those are the main things to aim for. Aside from there there are a lot of gray areas with sizing of frames, bars etc that can become personal preference.

Looking at Dan's in your price range and I didn't find anything that's as nice as this is: https://hoffmanbikes.com/product/25-year-anniversary-bama/ Much nicer than the 450 dollar bikes on Dan's.

For some reason I couldn't ever see spending that much on a hoffman complete. A FIT yes, but a hoffman no

The Fit that is that price is mostly a hi-ten frame and hi-ten fork. The Bama is full chromo. For some reason I can't see why anyone would buy a hi-ten bike when they can get full chromoly frame and fork for the same price. That doesn't make any sense. The Bama has double wall rims and chromoly bars too. That's a way better deal than any of the Fit bikes I saw anywhere.

Unfortunately yeah it's got less chromo in the frame, bar and fork. But that doesn't say anything about the quality of the welds and overall geo and parts selection so it's hard to say. I mean the hoffman looks like a bike from 10 years ago with that low standover height and the fit just looks more modern.

Now of course it would matter to you and I but to someone getting an entry level complete how much will it matter? I think having a comfortable, light, dialed looking bike with a sexy color scheme is going to make more difference than the type of tubing used (weight: 26.5 lbs for the hoffman & 25.9 for the fit dugan)

But you know what? Hoffman's been in the business longer than anybody and knows what they're doing. Plus my buddy rides for Hoffman so yeah get the Hoffman!!!!!!

All those Fit 1 Series bikes all have fully sealed wheels, headset and bottom brackets. For under $400 they tend to be the best bikes for the money. However we have a few of the 2016 DK Helio bikes left that also have all those features as well as a pivotal seat and full chromoly frame, fork and bars. The last few we have are on sale for $399.95. Check the link below.

another great deal is the Fly bike at the link below. We have a few we got on a good deal because they are 2015's so we can pass the savings on. Check below.

Hope that helps!

I thought it would be easier making a choice but wow such a hard choice to make when you can only get one bike, I would love to try them all.
I do like the fit looks and color scheme however i know that is poop when it comes to specs.
I like how the hoffman is more complete but it does cost a few more dollars.

I have to check out albes next.

50 extra bucks for a full chromo bike is worth it. The Bama has double wall rims too. The Fit completes at that price have single wall rims. That DK at Albe's sounds nice. I had a friend who was riding a hi-ten bike and the head tube failed. He had to have his face reconstructed. He dropped off a curb.

Boom your decision is made those are the 2 most dialed bikes for the money on Albes.

Now just decide what color you want

Green --> the DK

Black --> the Fly

And support Albes. they are a rider owned shop

Look into which geometrys suit you for example the rise on the bars (I would recommend 9" and over) and the length (also I would recommend 28" to 27" as it provides extra clearance. You then need to look at head tube angles top tube length seat tube angle and chain stay length (shorter chainstay makes it easier to manuel. Wants you have found a bike that suits you with all your preferences buy it. Personally I wouldn't recommend complete bikes and would make a custom but customs can be from $900 to $1100. For a complete bike I would recommend fitbikeco or cult as the internals aren't cheap and are well made
