In 2007 I was 8 years old.

But I sit at a desk doing technical support for Car Backup Cameras, kinda soul sucking/kinda laid back-pays the bills and takes care of the bike.

On weekdays, I'm a general operator(mechanics and electronics), currently working on high power inverters and such for the renewable energy industry(wind farms, etc.).

On weekends, I operate and maintain fairground rides.

In the little spare time I have, I'm a freelance programmer.

Yep. silly I used to travel around with them a bit too, living in caravans for months on end. The work was hard and very long hours but the life experience and everything I learned was absolutely worth it. There's nothing like a hard, manual labour job to teach you how the world works.

I'm jobless. I worked at a movie theater for a while but i got tired of minimum wage so then i got a job at sams club pushing carts for $11 an hour. That didn't last too long. Managers always chose to blame everything on me and being a cart pusher made me feel so worthless. It was sould crushing. I started day dreaming about getting hit by a car at work just because then i wouldn't have to go back.

I don't know how it works in the US but if I were you, I'd look for an apprenticeship(electrician, mechanic, machinist, etc.). It'd be a hell of a lot more interesting and fulfilling than pushing carts wink.

I forgot an interesting and possibly BMX related thing happening with work too...

They want to send me to LA to head up the opening of our second office out there. They'll pay for my relocation and stuff, and uh....I'd pretty much be able to pick the place (within reasonable driving distance of LAX) and I'd be working from home for the first few months.

I'm thinking...Long Beach...practically every pro lives there, and I couldn't imagine how happy I would be being able to wake up, not commute, work, take my dog out, and ride almost every day.

I would have to take a pretty big leap moving across the country, but I don't think this is an opportunity I want to let pass me by.

I've been nagging my friend to introduce me to the owners of the bike shop he works for so that if a job opens up I can get in there but he refuses, and I only go in there to buy tubes which is like 3 times a year since they don't stock any BMX stuff.

Yeah, that's usually the case. Sounds great... until you realize how tedious it can be & not every job is welding up custom BMX frames. LOL

Sounds like an ass of a friend lollaughing

But the way I got an offer, I was just in there needing my wheels trued, (before I felt comfortable enough to true my own wheels lol), and I needed to do some other shot to my bike as well, like regrease and clean shit and just usual maintenance, and I had the rest of my bike with me, so I said, fuck it, and I worked on my bike while the guy in the shop was replacing spokes and trueing my wheels (I can replace spokes and true wheels now, I just didn't feel comfortable doing it when this happened) so I was working on my bike and they were impressed that I could do all the stuff I was doing to my bike, like properly clean and regrease stuff and what not, and the owner/manager told me, "Hey dude, when you turn 16 come here and we'll be mre than happy to give you a job!" And I was fuckin stoked!

So there's my story lol

That’s what most people keep telling me. It’s now a real possibility and I’m going to check about signing a month to month lease when I’m set to renew in July.

Just to clarify, I am not a NYC person at all. My mom gave birth to me in the Northeast and that’s about where my loyalty to this area ends. I moved to the city because it made sense and there were jobs. I went to school here and you know, just kinda got stuck in that “NYC is the world capitol of design” and that stopped being true in the mid 00’s.

This place has a way of making you feel that you can’t leave until you accomplish something. All my friends always said I was way more of that California kind of person. I’m laid back (when not stressed and anxious because I live in this shit hole) and really appreciate nature. I want to live out west so bad to be near the ocean, mountain ranges, parks, desert, etc. I don’t really go out or socialize much here now, that prob wouldn’t change in LA.

I’ve been needing a big change lately and the fact that it’s such good weather out there I could see myself getting healthier, happier, and also bumping my career a bit.

I will definitely reach out if things play out like I hope they do! I would love to meet people through BMX in a new place because honestly there’s no better way to explore a city than on 2 wheels.

I mean you can ride year round- it never gets too cold to ride. I came from Colorado so I know the pain of having snow or it being below 0°F. The people here suck but I'm sure you're used to the big city mindset most of these people have. This is a great place to get a job(I was offered $100/hr as a gay pornstar the first month I was here, no joke-and no I'm not a pornstar) things are expensive but it's not that bad-Long Beach is literally the nicest/cheapest place to live right now so Id jump on it if I were you, It's too far from work for me. Very big BMX community (there's a BMX specific Rideout every Thursday, and Jams hosted by Stranger/Primo/Cult almost every weekend). Very Fun city.
