Another good band is Downy. Think of them as like the Japanese Radiohead; anyway some vids from them:

It's probably b/c they don't "get it" either. They are just copying what they see on the web...they see Minor Threat in one vid, Skrewdriver in another, Madball in a third, Agnostic Front, The 4 Skins, Cock Sparrer, Iron Cross; Anti-Seen etc... and don't really do any research.

For good or bad, most of the hardcore bands I encounter are just people posing for one reason or other...usually a bunch of jock-types just looking for another reason to beat up people smaller than them so that they feel good about themselves.

On the other side, i have met TONS of hardcore/punk bands that are the coolest, smartest most down to earth people there are...no posers at all.

Some favorite non-English bands are:
Discarga; Shark Attack; - South America
The Temple - MAdrid, Spain
Burzum - Norway
Kampfar - Norway
Spazz; Crispus Attucks; What Happens Next? - all from Cali, but sing in Spanish
D.s>-13; Vitamin X - Swedish

Glad to hear that you are on "Nazi Patrol". Most of the skins I know are "Summer of 69" types. Less about the race thing and more about working class. So many people don't understand what the original Skins were about...

I can't say that I condone violence for sport, or just for violences sake, but I definitely believe in standing up for what you believe in. I grew up in the era of circle pits (early 80's) and no ninja;MFA kickboxing stuff...Sometimes i feel like modern hardcore is just Crips and Bloods stuff in a different suit, and I HATE gang culture. I think it brings down the integrity of the scene...but that is just me. I am an old guy.

Love the comment about Spazz. Cookie Monster is definitely a new "language"

What do you play, and what band is/was it?

i grew up in the early 90's hardcore scene, NY during the 80's had the ninja stuff as well. i have no issues with crews like i know few people out your way that are SOSF i got some people in my town that are FSU. hardcore was always about violence and solutions, punk was crying about shit and not doing anything. my local scene is a little soft on NAZIS since the nazis dont go to shows they wont headhunt with me "because they aren't at our shows and this isn't a vigilante recruitment" when i put out a call to arms.

cookie monster refers to the vocal style of spazz, infest, apartment 213, neanderthal, lack of interest, like that deep manly shouting with umpf behind it.

my pv band went through several names and different styles, ended up doing a 7inch split with belgian grind band agathocles.

i play bass do the cookie monster / low vocals. its literally black metal played in power violence fashion with noise. kind of why i stopped playing wasnt really digging it but ive played shows with DRI, subzero, wormrot, billy club sandwhich, spoonful of vicodin, leftover crack, fuck im dead, afgrund, squash bowels just a shit ton of bands. song starts around 40 seconds

but i also do vocals for this

Cool. I definitely hear the black metal influence, which is fine with me. Love the first wave of black metal. Love me some Apt 213, as well as Infest...also 9 Shocks Terror. Apt 213 is from Cleveland right - want to make sure we are talking about the same band. Obviously am into Agothecles...they started that scene for the most part. Mincecore...

I play bass as well, and sing, but I am more into the Ian MacKaye screaming than the low stuff. My voice is so trashed over the years, I can't get the low stuff

Definitely know what cookie monster vocals are. I was around before that stuff started...when it was just in metal...Diecide, Morbid Angel, Carcass, Naplam Death, Nocturnus...all were doing that way before hardcore bands were. Probably Agnostic Front was the first time I remember hearing lower pitched vocals in hardcore.

I loved that real early NYHC stuff...it changed my world about fast music. I am into all kinds of punk/hardcore. I grew up in the original Straight Edge scene of the early 80's, and still am, but I was one of the only Edge guys who would listen to stuff outside of the that scene. I know most Skins thing Edge guys are pussy's, but most of my Skin friends respected us b/c we were truly saying FU to the most mainstream thing t here is to do...drinking and drugs. My Edge friends hated it that I had Skin friends, but my mind set was "to each his own. If you believe in something, stand up for it." As mentioned before, most of my Skin friends were Summer of 69 types...I had a few Redskin friends as well as many SHARPS, but I never got the whole crew thing so I did my own thing...

I definitely don't like Sand because they're good. It's more of like an inside joke with me and a few of my friends. That link is pretty sweet though.
