My family has had five different ones. They all got glitchy and then the screens broke or stopped working. And the charger ports would brake and to fix it you have to take the whole thing about and glue it back together.

I know that Macs are awesome. So if you could find a nice used one or an older model on the cheap somewhere, that'd be sick. I have ALWAYS had a Mac. It's awesome. Never had problems with it ever really. Just the charger broke a long while back but a new one on Amazon is like 17$ so they hold up well. really look into it.

look for a laptop that has an ssd hard drive, and a quad core cpu, 8gb+ of ram

Love my iPhone but MacBooks are way too expensive and id like to get something new. I could get some kind of warranty on.

Care to tell me why a quad core cpu? And what's ram?

Picture a single core processor as a one lane highway. With each car that passes through as information that needs to be processed or calculated. Having four lanes would increase the amount of information you can process at a time.

RAM is storage where programs go to read and write data, RAM is like a hard-drive just allot faster. One of the advantages of having allot of RAM, is that it lets you run multiple programs simultaneously, without the computer becoming too sluggish.

Generally video editing requires a beefy CPU and a decent amount of RAM, I'm assuming that's why bmxsteve recommended it.

No they're not. Looking at just specs, sure. But you'd only do that if you're a fucking moron. MacBooks have better keyboards and trackpads than any other laptop you can buy, along with superior battery life than most (Especially considering thinness and weight), not to mention batteries that are 3x more durable. Plus the Pros have some of the best screen calibration. And of course OS X offers a much better experience than Windows, and you get everything in a super high quality slim design that's gonna hold up better than most Windows laptops.

All the Windows laptops that come close in quality to MacBooks cost just as much.

I do have a Macbook, but I'm definitely not an Apple fanboy.

OP, it's hard to find something that's really good for under $1000. Under $500 and basically everything will be the same low quality shit. It's best to go used under that price. Look at reviews, make sure it either has an SSD (solid state drive) or you can upgrade to an SSD. SSDs greatly improve performance. Make sure you have at least 8GB of RAM. An i3 dual core processor or better will probably work for your needs tbh. Integrated graphics works fine. Make sure it has a good trackpad. It's really hard to find on anything that isn't a Mac, but still. A bad trackpad will make you hate your life.

Tbh really anything recent will work if you're just storing shit and web browsing. The i3 dual core and 8GB of RAM are just what I would consider the minimum for a good experience.

Another great thing about it is the software that comes installed on it. I personally like iMovie. It's useful for editing. All the stuff for music comes ready to go so I highly recommend that!

I love the keyboard and the track pad also. I honestly didn't have to pay for mine, but I would spend that if I wanted a laptop.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that you really don't have to fuck around with Macs. They generally work perfectly without you having to do anything, although Yosemite was a bit sketchy at launch. All the problems are either fixed quickly by updates or easily fixed yourself.

Also, it's kickass if you use an iPhone, too. Being able to make and take phone calls and text on your laptop is amazing. But I'm ditching my iPhone for a Nexus 6 next week so I'm losing that integration. Texting on your laptop is possible with Android, but it isn't quite as nice as with Apple.

And for anyone wondering about the 3x more durable claim, Mac batteries are rated for 1000 cycles, most Windows laptop batteries are rated for 300 cycles, but of course they are sometimes user replaceable.

Well I just got on Craigslist and found an 09 MacBook for $100 with up to date software, they just got a new one so they don't need it. It's probably not as kickass compared everything else but I think it's worth checking out

The only real issue I have with apple was when they MADE me pay for a software update for my iTouch, and within 6 months the darn thing was totally obsolete anyway. SUPER weak.

Get a wd passport. Its an external harddrive that you plug into your usb port. Mine was 70$ and has 500 gigs and i can set a password incase it even gets stolen.

I would stay away from Asus. Nothing but shit luck/products/service with them for me. I had one last a little over a year before it broke, next one lasted 6 months. Got a new one, it was shipped to me broken. Sent it back, they "repaired" it, still didn't work. Sent it back again, they "fixed" it again, still didn't work. Sent it in one more time, still didn't work, decided to ask for a refund and move on.

Not really, an iphone plus with 16gb storage costs 800 euros, while for example a samsung s6 700, the thing is that adroid devices, except nexus and the oneplusone, go down progressibly, for example an lg g2 costs a bit over 200, while an iphone mantains the price till the next generation.

I am a fucking morom i guess, but personally, i dont give a fuck about keyboards and trackpads, thats just not important, and the high quality slim design is fucking bullshit, who the fuck cares about thickness and weight always that it is in some limits. The experience that youg et with os x might be good for you, i have used an imac and its shit to me. Lots of people say that their os is works just better faster etc . They should try linux for fuck sake.

Keyboards and trackpads are insanely important. How else are you going to interact with a laptop? I mean, you might have a completely unergonomic touchscreen. Once you use a Mac keyboard and trackpad, there's no going back. Design may not be important to you, but I love well designed products. Having a shitty designed laptop makes me feel like I didn't get what I paid for. Thinness and weight are also very important because I, along with many other people, take my laptop everywhere with me. Don't think I need to say why a thin, light laptop is beneficial.

I don't give a shit about "feeling exclusive" and I don't think "the more expensive something is the better it is." Apple provides the best design and by far the best overall experience. No one even comes close. Tell me Macs are overpriced, then go look at high end Windows laptops that cost as much as Macs, but are made of plastic or shitty aluminum and flex and look like shit, and perform the same in day to day use and have poorly calibrated screens and inferior battery life.

An SSD has no moving parts. It's much, much faster and also more durable. They are a lot more expensive, but totally worth it.

Comparable in my mind would be a Galaxy Note 4 vs iPhone6 plus. WITH CONTRACT (as most people in the United States where I live have contracts) they are the same price, basically the same size and most aspect are very similar. Certain details are different, but ultimately, you get a smartphone with pretty much all the same capabilities on either side of the fence. And also here in the states, the iPhone pricing does lower some as time goes on (for the contract deals anyway) where I have seen them get as low as 99 CENTS before the next generation is out. (Usually leading right into the new one, to sell off old stock).
