I can't sleep.

For some reason, no matter how hard I try, I just can't sleep at night. I have two problems:

1.) I have nightmares consistently. Probably 5 or 6 nights a week. I don't want to go into detail about them but they are absolutely terrifying. Most of them are demon/Satan/hell related.

2.) I just can't seem to fall asleep and when I fall asleep, I have trouble staying asleep.

Let me tell you guys, I've tried EVERYTHING. I've tried powering down, drinking sleepy time tea, everything. It just doesn't work. I've resorted to taking shots of NyQuil straight from the bottle at about 2-3 AM at times. I DO NOT want to keep doing that but at times it seems like it's my only choice.

I will wake up around 9 or 10 when I get an okay night's sleep and I will ride for almost 10 hours that day, come home, shower, and start to rest and get ready for the next day but I can't seem to go to sleep!

Does anyone have any suggestions? I feel like MAYBE I am afraid to go to sleep because I know I am going to wake up in the middle of the night terrified. How can I stop the nightmares and get my sleeping schedule back on track? Sorry for the long read, I really need help.

Just to clarify, I don't watch horror movies often. I don't watch anything that could possibly make me have nightmares. Last horror movie I watched was "Mama" and I saw it in theaters so that had to be over a year ago.

I don't eat fruits. And I rarely eat vegetables. But I drink TONS of juice, tea, water, Gatorade, Kool-aid. Tang, and other healthy drinks and doctors have told me that as long as I do that then I'll be fine.

Is your doctor on crack? Gatorade? kool-aid? tang? How are those supplements for fruits and veggies??

It supplies electrolytes, vitamins, and water homie. My fruit & veggie supplements come from the juices and some teas that I drink on a daily basis. I also take vitamins.

idk dude id just try incorporating some raw foods into your diet for a little, it cant hurt. im no nutritionist or anything but i know that like in juicing and stuff (its different than like just regular juice you but at the supermarket) the fruit in the juice loses some kind of nutrients or antioxidants or something like that within like a day or something, so bottled juice ≠ raw fruit and veggies, plus they add lots of sugar and stuff into bottled juice.

I've heard about that but never really tried it. I don't own a working blender or anything like that anymore though.

kool aid is like all sugar and coloring im pretty sure. not good. gatorade isnt so bad but its still really sugary and contains a lot of unnatural ingredients that your body really just isnt made to ingest. idk i have a feeling its your diet, just make some little changes for a bit and see how it goes. if you really want to get to the bottom of it maybe for like a couple of days, keep track of everything you eat and drink and all of their ingredients/nutrients and then look up just a standard diet or whatever and what it suggests and compare your diet to the "standard" one

tbh i think juicing is stupid, just make smoothies if you want to go the liquid route. but I was just giving an example about how processed, grocery store foods dont really compare to raw foods.

Okay. Thanks for the advice man.

My diet consists of A TON of spicy & hot foods, could that have something to do with this? I've loved hot sauce and peppers and stuff all my life and I just started having nightmares and sleeping problems consistently in like May.

No, Spicy foods don't cause nightmares, they're actually really good for the body.

That's what I've always been told but I'm just thinking about what I eat.

Nothing that bad. I stress about school a lot but it's summer now so I don't have to worry about much. Anxiety isn't too much of a problem either. I mean aren't we all a little stressed all the time? And don't we all have a little bit of anxiety?

yeah thats true. well idk, diet is the only thing i can think of. hontstly its kinda a "universal fix" like sometimes it can make all the difference in the world, but sometimes it wont do anything. but its worth a shot.

I agree. If eating healthier doesn't help, what should I do then? Any suggestions?

Well, maybe see a doctor about it. You can be referred to a specialist. therapist/sleep doctor.

I've considered talking to my parents about taking me to one of those but I never actually did. I may have to talk to them about it. Thanks.

Yep. A few days ago I drank two 12 oz Red Bulls around 8 and when I started heading home at like 9:30ish, I felt myself crashing but it wore off or something because I was still awake until like 2am that night.

These drinks are not healthy at all.

Honestly most juices you buy at a store are terrible too. If your Dr told you to he is a tard.

Eat fruits and veggies OR blend them up and drink it. Make legit smoothies out of fruit and ice. That's it. THAT will help you get healthy.

And don't tell me "that's gross" until you do it. I blended spinach, banana, apple, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries and it was flippin DELICIOUS.

Most of the "vitamins" you get from gatorade are so synthetic they don't help much. The electrolytes are also synthetic too, you would be WAY better off getting real foods to get them.

And eat less spicy stuff, especially before bed. Have a bland meal for dinner for a week and see what happens.

I'm not too afraid of scary movies already, I sleep with a BIG fan on medium speed every night but I don't smoke or drink.
